Anyone else waiting for an 06 in PDX, or better yet, with Tonkin?

We put down $500 in October for an early 06 delivery. Now Tonkin's salesman (Allen Bixby) is communicating at the rate of less than once per week, and never with any useful info.

Does anyone know what the allotment schedules are for this region? Maybe that's a dealer specific timetable, I don't know.

Today I asked Allen when the next delivery would be, and he said glibly, "Oh, we get them all the time!" So I'm thinking, "Ummm, you DO know that you promised us one of those cars???" He has promised to get back to me today. If not, I'm really going to get annoyed and start calling other dealerships.

Is this typical of anyone else's experience waiting for an 06?

Don't wait, start calling other dealerships -- see if they have them in stock, if not, get your name on a list. Though my first dealer was a nice enough guy (was happy to sit around and shoot the sh!t for 20 or 30 minutes), he never really communicated what was going on well. It was until a day into my Christmas break that I was bored and driving around when I stopped by the other Toyota dealership in our county and saw they had exactly what I wanted sitting on the lot that belonged to no one. They held it for a couple of weeks till the new year for me.

I sent out a MASS email to every Toyota dealership within a 300 mile radius of Seattle, WA. The 2 dealers I settled on were Broadway Toyota and John & Phil's Toyota in Corvallis. I'm holding out for the color I want, otherwise both dealers had Package 7's back a few weeks ago with a January pick-up date.

Try Toyota of Gladstone. I started looking for an '06 on Monday and had my pick of several option packages (#1, #4, #7) priced MSRP. You may have to wait for some hard to find colors, but they had red, white and silver in stock or on the way. . .
    Good luck!

We picked up our '06 Silver #7 on Monday from Gladstone Toyota, formerly Thomason Toyota. We had a flawless experience from start to finish, and they had several models on the lot, so you may want to give a call and see if anyone has backed out of their place on the waiting list.

What price of msrp were you able to get?

Add what price additions if any did they try to add?

He should at least be able to tell you how often they get allotments and how many cars to the allotment and what # you are in line for the color and package you are asking for.
This will give a rough Idea of when to expect delivery.....

If he won't tell you that, he's holding back.

I was on a list with Beaverton Toyota. Put $500 down, had no idea of when or even at what price ("MSRP at time of delivery"). The more I thought about it the less I liked that particular deal.

I used Edmonds.com and specified the car I wanted. I selected 3 other dealerships in the area. Within 30 minutes Gladstone Toyota replied that they had my car (in silver not blue) for MSRP. It got sold out from under us as I was talking to the salesman on the phone. :( But he also said that there was another inbound 'shortly'. Leery of list, I declined to get on it.

The next morning an even closer dealship let me know that they had two cars in stock. One of them became the one I bought. Oh, and I got my $500 back with no issues despite the 'non-refundable' language in the contract.

You don't have to use Edmonds, but definitely call around. They're out there.

Thanks for all the advice! Guess how much I heard from the salesman who promised to get back to me today? Go on, guess! Nada! I am continually amazed in life by alleged service professionals who make it hard for me to pay them!

I'll keep you posted on what happens...

i've been working with broadway toyota and trying to keep a very zen attitude about delivery time, and so far they've treated me with respect, always called me back, and always took however long i needed to test drive, answer questions, etc.

I got my 04 Prius at Broadway Toyota when the waiting list was really long. The fleet manager Jerry Rousselle was always great about keeping me informed on the wait and got me my car at MSRP.

Picked up my 2006 Package #8 Prius yesterday from Jerry in Fleet/Internet sales at Broadway Toyota. Love the car so far!

Jerry was great. Good communication. Flexible when I waffled on what package to get. Didn't require a deposit. No haggling, car at MSRP with no markup. Worked with me to get a good deal on accessories. Delivery of the car and all the paperwork took less than 30 minutes. I'll buy from them again.

Bought my 2002 Prius from Tonkin... NEVER AGAIN! Horrible sales/purchase experience.

Don't put down a deposit for a Prius. There are lots of dealers who will sell without one. Don't pay more than MSRP. They will all tell you you have to.

I went through Autoland here in Portland. It was a painless procedure. You tell them what you want, they give you a price(mine was a little less than MSRP). They just order the car. I got mine in 4 months, but I told my broker I was in no hurry. My car came in a few weeks ago, but they sat on it so I could get the '06 tax credit. It's now getting leatherized.

Okay, first, thanks for all the valuable perspective on Tonkin. Made me feel like I had a little more leverage.

They MAY have pulled it out in the ninth inning.

I called yesterday on the way home from work, and they had a silver with package 7.

Our agreement (for the deposit) was MSRP + 0. So, here's the question, does MSRP include destination charge? Because my new Prius DOES!

If everyone is paying this, and it is just a fact of life when you are paying 'sticker' for a car, I don't have a problem. But, if people are regularly buying 06s without destination ($580), or if it is not normally considered to be part of MSRP, then I think I have a right to demand it be removed (only I have signed the loan docs, wife still has to sign- but they let me take the car- maybe a 'feel of the wheel' type thing).

The only other thing added was floor mats, and I'm ok with that. We have to go in today for her to sign, so let's hear it: Does destination charge qualify under an agreement that says MSRP + 0?? Oops, I just looked, and it is actually called 'Delivery, Processing and Handling Fee' which sounds even more suspect, somehow'.

Oh, and I just noticed that he added back in a junk 'document fee' that he had agreed to nix back when I made the deposit.

    Sigh.

Its been my understanding the delevery fee is extra.... thier are "two" msrp's...
The first one is the real one ie: 21725.00, then you add 580.00 destination charge to that plus your package and any accessories above and beyond that.... like that bumper protection, matts etc..... add everything together and you get the second msrp that you commonly see on the window sticker as a final price and destination is included in that one.

Ok, I went ahead and paid the fee, and here is my reasoning:

I researched at Edmund's, and they say that the destination fee IS part of the MSRP, since the dealer was charged it by the factory.

But, about the other fee he added back in...

We are supposed to get our $500 deposit back next week in the mail, and the $50 junk fee at the same time. 'The check's in the mail!' I know, I know.

Now, on to enjoying the car! It was fun driving it home, but I swear someone could get into an accident trying to play with everything!

Tonight after the kids are down, I get to play some more...!

Thanks again for the helpful advice, and if you think I got ripped, I don't want to know! Just kidding.

Another 'official' member of Priuschat! Woohoo!
