Do you mean... Load it up with equipment, drive out to the woods, fall asleep inside of car, enjoy nature.... Or load it up then camp in a tent?

I think camping with the C is a much more feasible option, trying to pack lightly enough that you would be able to sleep in the car seems like no fun. But that's just my two cents.

Although I have not tried to be honest.

I have been camping in the C, but not sleeping in the C. I have a camping hammock that I use and love.

I'd imagine it would get stuffy, especially if two people sleep inside. You'd think that rolling down the windows will help, but what will happen if it rains, gets cold, mosquitos, bears, etc etc..

I seen videos on youtube, and pictures on Prius Chat of people who converted a Prius Lift back to/for camping. Does anyone have any information and or videos, etc for converting a Prius C for camping/living/sleeping. Currently I have a 2012 Prius C two. The windows have 35 % tint. Usually when I go road trip I just lock the door, tilt the seat back, grab a blanket and go to sleep. I was thinking of just getting a portable/camping toilet and a power invert-er Any ideas/suggestions? Thank you.

I think a midget would likely sleep comfortably in a C. Likely flat on the back seats.

You would be blazing a trail here.

    Hmm, which would be worse?
Economy seats on an International Flight (to Asia or Europe), or trying to "sleep" in a C.

You sound like the few people I have met, who can soundly sleep in uncomfortable positions and surfaces, and still feel rested.

Here is what I have done see my album My 2015 C | PriusChat for some pics

Here are some pics not on the album that show the sleeping board I made to flatten out the back of the car when the seats are folded down. If you remove the 24" piece from the back you can close the hatch. I am 5 9" and sleep comfortably with the hatch open and a little tight but doable with the hatch closed.
The netting I used I got off of Amazon "J is for Jeep Mosquito Net for Baby Double Strollers, White, Universal Size, Tandem Stroller Bug Cover, Weather Protection".

I drove for 30 hours straight and still couldn't fall asleep in my C because it was packed with stuff so I couldn't recline it :(

Hey tgpii! I was just curious if you ever converted the back of your prius C into a sleepable area. I saw that my prius C back seats are higher than my trunk area and was just wondering. Thanks in advanced!

    Kind regards,

This was a 2013 original post.
But my hanging around Prius Chat..and other automotive websites...has convinced me people find a way to camp and convert nearly any and all vehicles.

Seems like "smaller" sometimes becomes a more creative challenge and people come up with some really neat adaptations.

I'd recommend if you are really interested..googling the term camping with the name of your vehicle. Usually you'll find people on youtube that have done some amazing things.

Also I would say....with like the Prius c...you could also check out some of the adaptations done to a Honda Fit. They are similar size and some of the ideas should easily translate from one vehicle to another.

But it seems to me...people find ways to make nearly any vehicle they own "Camping Worthy" and sometimes what they come up with is really, really impressive.

I have actually slept in my car on the way to Boise one time!

I am 5'2 and was able to fit just fine!
Bring the front seats all the way forward create a draw bridge of some sort lay the back seat down put a sleeping pad of some sort down and you're in business!

Pro tip! If you want to keep your window's down some you can always use bug net on the windows

I used windshield covers on all my windows to keep the heat in, in the winter time.

Don't expect a luxurious amount of room but it was fine for myself and my litte Chiuahaha watch dog :)

If you're taller than 5'4", it may be uncomfortable if you like to sleep with straightened out legs (and if you're thinking of more than one person...it's going to be very uncomfortable)

If you're scared of it raining with windows down a little bit, buy some window visors, especially darker tint ones, they work wonders in ventilating while you are sleeping in the car (or else you're car's going to look like the one in the titanic sex scene)

If it's cold/hot outside, always great to just leave the car on (in a open area) and have it cycle through a nice ambient temp (unless you're afraid of the car catching fire or whatever)...I've left the car on in 20 degree weather and car only consumed a bar of fuel in 8 hours (so better comfortable then freezing/sweating)

And buy those foam or inflatable camping/sleeping maps, they work wonders on a piece flat hard wood or whatever you use.

ALSO, bring some nice closable wide mouth bottles/jugs (gatorade jugs work wonders...just remember)...I hate needing to piss in the middle of the night when it's cold as f outside or just feel inconvenienced with it (everyone does it, no shame)

I’ve done it, with a tri-fold mattress thing and a 2’x2’ board to bridge the gap between the back and front seats (held up by a rope around the headrest bars).

It really needs a flat board setup such as sph101’s to smooth things out, but otherwise it’s doable.

I’m tempted to do something resembling a camp cot with the front seat reclined fully underneath the cot.

Did it. 3 nights in the car, one in a tent, one under the stars.

Flat platform 78 inches long. Supported by a crappy-carpentry 2x3 frame in front strapped to a 2x3 support in the front seat, plus the reclined back of the front seat, and a crate from Home Depot that doubles as kitchen storage.

Boards are hinged in the middle, and notched on the corner so they’ll fit in the trunk. Because of the hinge, kitchen crate is still accessible.

Design was partially driven by needing to camp alone some of the time, but needing to have two or three passengers for a few days in the middle of the trip. Everything but one plastic bin (doubles as clothing storage and part of the 2x3 support structure) Fits in the trunk leaving the passenger cabin free for use.

Shared my bed platform with the dog. On some days, left it up and it was the dog’s travel space. Harnessed and belted in to avoid being a flying projectile.

I tried to sleep in my c and it was very uncomfortable and im 5’4”. Couldn’t sleep at home so I tried to sleep in the parking lot at work before my shift in the morning. Turned to a 2-3 hour nap and didn’t feel that great after.
