So a few years ago for a front bearing job I bought Schley's axle nut unstaking tool 65420, and I just discovered another use for it. I find drum brakes tedious to work on. I dislike fussing with all the pesky springs. Yesterday when I discovered the shoe sliding surfaces on the backplate seemed to need grease again, I really didn't want to take everything apart just to put grease there. The Schley tool is just the right shape to lift the shoes up by several mm in the middle (compressing the hold-down springs), just enough to sneak a thin screwdriver in and butter the contact pads with some grease, and let them down again. Boom, done. -Chap
