Is anyone aware of the latest TSB? I couldn't catch the name of it and the Prius tech didn't tell me what it does but apparently it's one for 04 AND 05 models. Can anyone tell me what it's for? He's supposedly doing it on mine on Mon for whatever reason.

Edit: Ok, I'm starting to remember more details. He said the TSB flashes two computers, one for the HV, the other for the engine.

Are you sure it is not the "Re-Call" that we have had in the lower 48?

Yup, that's the "recall"...you didn't qualify for that? What year/month is your car?

    oh, that's a recall? lol.

    Sep/04 build

I didn't get any letter regarding any TSB or recall. What does this recall do? what causes the recall?

do not know how Toyota Canada is handling this but here is what was in the papers down here:

Toyota Announces Voluntary Special Service Campaign
on 2004 and Early 2005 Model Year Prius

    TORRANCE, Calif., Oct. 13, 2005

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS), will launch a Special Service Campaign
involving certain 2004 and early 2005 model year Prius sold in the United States.

On the involved vehicles, an issue with the program logic in the
Electronic Control Module (ECM) system may cause some or all of the
following warning lights to illuminate: Master, Hybrid System, Engine,
Vehicle Stability Control, and Brake. If this occurs, the vehicle will
enter a fail-safe mode, which allows limited operation via the electric
motor. However, the electrically powered brake and steering operation will
continue to function normally if this condition occurs. The electric motor
will also provide enough power to allow the driver to pull the vehicle over
and away from traffic. Once the vehicle is stopped, the driver may be able
to restart the engine in the vehicle by pushing the start button.

Approximately 75,000 2004 and 2005 model year Prius vehicles may be
affected by this condition. Toyota is proactively conducting a campaign in
    the interest of its customers.

Toyota will inform owners of the involved vehicles with a Special
Service Campaign notification letter sent via first class mail beginning in
late October. Owners are requested to contact their local Toyota dealer for
diagnosis and repair upon receiving their notification. Toyota will
reprogram the ECM system at no charge to the owners of the vehicle. Also,
in certain vehicles a special dielectric grease will be applied at no
charge, to an electrical connector for the transaxle, which may cause a
    similar condition.

Customers with questions or concerns should contact the Toyota
    Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.

In Canada we don't get the SSC's we get the SABB-403-1A which was the US equivelent of the "SSC-40-D" HV ECU flash. And the tech managed to kill the HV computer in the process as it wouldn't accept the flash. But once it was done the car gets better milage and goes into stealth much quicker and this is subjective but I think it runs longer in electric mode. Note: NO EV button.

Hmm, yeah the tech said something about flashing the engine's ECU and the HV ECU.

So is it worth the upgrade?

I'd love to know if it was a success. Problem is the service writer won't know dick all about it. So the best thing to do is ask to speak directly to the tech. Other wise I'd probably take it to Langley ToyotaTown and ask for Darren.

I tried a website to punch in my number at some website and nothing came up. Considering I've only had it 2 weeks, is it safe to assume they did the recall stuff before putting it on the lot?

Ask them what version of software is in their Scantool (this is *not* the firmware that goes into the car, it's the firmware that controls the tool used to do the upgrade on the car). There is a bug in version 13.1 which can ruin the car's computer. The scantool needs to use version 13.0 OR 13.2.

Tideland yes she's had her's done, and Richard I'm not sure if the same firmware and software is used in the Canadian THHT. As the Canadian model has all the fuel metering readouts in metric and the speed in metric it's part of the reason that it takes 4-6 months for our updates to become available. As there is less than 300 Prius in our market (approx 1.7 million people) inlcuding Classic Prius there is little incentive for Toyota to rush it to the Canadian Market. I would guess for the total Canadian Market there is probably only a 1000 Prius across the country.

oh ok, so I assume you were giving your observations from your own car, rather that what the flash is supposed to have resulted in?

mdmikemd, double check with your dealer.

    HAHAHA...

well, they fried it... great. I'm car-less for 4 days unless I can get a courtesy car from them. They said a power surge fried the ECU and it'll take 4 days for a new one to be shipped in <_<

OH NO!! Mine is scheduled for tomorrow morning and it is a 55 mile drive. I know the tech and he has done several so hopefully they won't have a power surge and fry mine too.
