There is a bill in the works in the California Senate to raise the number of Green decals by 15,000 to 85,000.
    Bill List
And I thought that the real worry was that the green decals were going to get cancelled altogether due to congestion in the HOV lanes, so all we need is MORE qualifying cars??

So basically this is a never ending supply.

What would really work for all of us is to extend the Smog Check exemption.

Yeah, pointless. Just make it like white stickers. If they don't give out stickers. No one going to buy those car. Cost $3K-5K more then a regular hybrid.

There's a lot of opposition to this proposal. The increased HOV congestion only will put a big bullseye on existing green HOV sticker owners and exacerbate pressures to cancel access way before 2019.

Cancel access before 2019? Oh that would upset a lot of PIP owners in CA

That's part of the deal- if congestion reaches a certain limit, greens are out of HOVs.

From what I see on the freeways now, I think the congestion has already reached it's limit......without the new proposed 15000 stickers.

Too much opposition to it for $8 per sticker. The HOV lanes are congested enough. Most days I am fully electric (EV) but I still use my PHEV on occasion ... and with the soaring amount of EVs I see in form of Tesla and BMW and MBZ and our smattering of the Rav4 EVs... I hope they stop ASAP because it's become a congested lane like every other.

The white decals are unlimited. As I understand it, if the HOV lanes become too congested for ANY reason (such as too many cars with white decals), then all of the green decals can be voided. :( The white decals are not subject to this voiding,

Just get a baby car seat.
Then the only sticker that you'll need is one of those goofy stick families.

If lightning strikes and you get pulled over, just act panicky and say:
"Holy CRAP!!! I forgot to pick up my kid!!!" and go running back to your car.

    Works every time. :D

I think the current law states *all* clean air vehicles will lose their privileges, not just the green decals (that is what the CAD states). What is also mentioned in the law is that if it is determined that HOV is congested, then DMV will discontinue issuance of new green decals (assuming the limit hasn't been reached).

Illegal single riders appear to account for a larger number than HOV Sticker drivers in my opinion, but with the lack of enforcement.

I was up in the bay area this past week and very surprised to see drivers on the 101 appeared to obey speed limits much more so than in SoCal where everyone drives 80.

Is there a problem with SoCal drivers ignoring the prohibition on crossing double white/yellow lines between the regular lanes and HOV lanes? Up here, that is very common (and scary).

This doesn't apply to just California drivers. If you happen to travel outside the state, it happens everywhere.

Honestly, I think that if they would take the closest lane to the HOV and make it an HOV lane also, it would increase interest in purchasing Hybrid/EV cars. This would benefit areas with high congestion, as well as benefit the air quality in these particular areas.

What would really impact the air quality and congestion issue is forcing people who want to take an exit to be on the right lane earlier. I dont travel during commute hours, but when I do I see most problem stems from people wanting to exit the freeway be on left lanes till the last possible moment.

Some of the HOV "exits" for an offramp ahead are less than 1/4 mile away. I can think of two like that: I-405 N at Atlantic Ave, and I-10 E at Indian Hill. Very dangerous.

The CA green and white HOV stickers are pretty much single-handedly a main reason for Plug-in sales, so does CA want to see Volt2 flop? No choice but to expand green HOV stickers. Also the CA program is sorta crazy, you'd have the used plug-ins escalating in value with green stickers if the program ended. VA/AZ have HOV plate system, no stickers.

    How many plug-ins have sold since 2012? = 325,631
How many CA green + white HOV stickers? ~70,000+~70,000 = ~140,000?

with the yellow stickers, resale values instantly jumped $3k. don't see what's wrong with that, thinking that i will get a pure EV and sell my PiP for a nice profit.
