About an hour from Albuquerque, Graphene, our Gen2 with 286k developed a horrible noise at 3000 rpm. Let off a bit noise goes away. Best description is a helicopter behind the dash. Yeah. It sounded like a top end issue but went away as rpm decreased. I couldn't find an oil pressure reading anyplace on my OBDfusion app. That last hour was the longest of the twelve from KCMO. Was it a timing chain guide? Would the thing eventually explode without a chance of capturing the breath taking event on video? The two Santa Fhazies tasted so good that night. Searched online, checked oil every few hours and continued our journey to San Diego the next morning. My partners anxiety was the most difficult to deal with. She has only ever owned a sh*tbox and the last pig consumed a quart a day before dropping a piston. Twelve more hours of listening to the noise when the engine was under a load and around the mountains of Flagstaff and Cleveland NF before arriving to SD area had me convinced it was an exhaust leak. That's exactly what I found yesterday morning. Soot everywhere. After two trips to the zone to get the correct gasket, problem solved.
The car doesn't have an oil pressure sensor, so there's nothing for an app to show. There's an oil pressure switch (way too low / not way too low) but that's it.
