    Hi-

Just wanted to share... I had a great salesman at Puente Hills Toyota (So. Cal) who set me up with a Barcelona Red #3 at MSRP - told in a email they only charge MSRP. When asked abut extras, my real price, etc. he quoted the price as "MSRP on the package #3 is $23,966.00. The tax, license & title is about 10% of the selling price of the vehicle". Went to pick up the car this evening and it had an extra $2500 for chrome rims... and the salesman indicated that every one they'd sold had the rims as it was an option almost all their customers wanted so it was convenient that they were packaged that way to meet the demand.

Is this true?? They didn't even look nice to me!? Am I just soooooo uncool or missing some incredible value these rims have... or, as I suspect, was the dealer just trying to force an easy add-on to get the price up given the demand - someone will grin and bear it... I'd have rather they just been straight with me upfront and I may have considered paying the extra, but they lost my respect and sale when they sprung this one me vs. informing me during any of our conversations (/emails)prior to driving out to pick-up the car.

Thoughts/feedback? Am I just too tired and whiney or is this wrong?

I know that Frontier Toyota in Valencia also adds chrome rims to most of theirs. Wow...$2500...that is steep!

I would agree with you that they don't look that great...and the funny thing is that they remove the trim rings (like a lot of us). I like the stock color much better.

They should have told you upfront...but there are so many of these guys out there!

I got mine at Keyes Toyota in Van Nuys. They normally charge over MSRP, but you can try calling Jason (fleet manager) or Genaro (VIP manager) and tell them that you got quoted MSRP at Puente Hills but were referred to them by Mike from Harris Stationers (their office Supply company). Can't guarantee they will match, but worth a try! Probably good to not mention the wheels add on (and make sure they know that it was MSRP with NO ADD ONS).

    Goodluck!

Thousand Oaks Toyota charges $3k over MSRP and $4k for the chrome wheels. Ugh. They're blocks away from my home, what a shame. Stay away from them.

Hollywood Toyota charges MSRP and doesn't add anything that I know of.

I ordered mine through Toyota of Oxnard, MSRP and the only add-on is the window etching, which you can not pay for, and then you just don't get the benefit of having the serial numbers etched in your windows. I think that option's about $200, but haven't picked the car up yet, so I'm not sure. Anyway, I can decline if I want to.

There's this guy, Steve Lewis?, at Toyota of Orange who does the same thing. He's on my company's list of "discount" dealers, but first time around forgot to put my name on a waiting list (back in Oct/2004), and then 2nd time around in Jan/2005 tried to spring on me chrome wheels and MSRP markup for the exact reasons "all the buyers want it that way!".

Just plain lies, wouldn't chroming the wheels reduce MPG?, and the games...

Stay way and find somebody else, but spread the word also that the dealership is one to avoid.
