So, the car in question is a 2008, the 12v battery is only about a month old. Got in the car this morning and headed to work, half way there i notice check engine light came on but the car felt no different so i kept going. After work, car started right up, check engine light stayed on, i got home and shut it off. Came back out about 15 min later with my scanner to pull some codes and the car had zero power whatsoever. Is it the 12v again?

i wouldn't think it is the cause, but may be the victim. you really have to find out what that check engine code is

Best way to tell would be voltage checks on the battery and checking for loose connections...even better if you have a battery tester or can take it to a place that has one.

Your code might be related to the fact that it might not be charging the 12v battery thru the hybrid system. or something big is staying on. Why was battery recently replaced?

Check the voltage when Prius is in ready. You can even do that with MFD if you don't have a meter. If it's changing perhaps you have a parasitic draw.

15828416699281261814786167971720.jpg Update: 12v battery refused to charge so the the "auto techs" at autozone replaced it. Car came back to life, only to have a coil burn up and almost catch fire. This prius is cursed!

I must say....I've never seen one do that before. I've seen the old style coils do similar stuff when they go bad and swell, but it never even crossed my mind for a COP. I guess in the big scheme of things, a coil is a coil.
