    Hi guys.
Is it me or is this is an annoying design flaw.... to hook up a regular MP3 player (NOT THE IPOD, ITOUCH ETC) the AUX jack and the 12V chargeing socket are located inside the center console... with no access to it if the lid is closed.. so how are you supposed to change the tracks etc... now if you keep the MP3 player outside the center console then the wires wont let you close the lid completly...

    HELLO!!!

So here is what i did...

I made two holes, passed the wires thru. Now the lid closes and i can get to my MP3 player...

anyone else think toyota overlooked this issue.

I am not talking about IPOD adapter cable, this is for 2011 prius II.

Yes, it is a poor design.

And the placement of the connectors at the back edge of the center console box is also inconvenient. I don't see what they were thinking with that design.

I imagine it was designed that way with mainly the iPod USB connection in mind, and the usability when the USB turns into a plain old Aux input wasn't really thought through. Unfortunately, people assume no one is going to use anything but Apple products nowadays (at least when it comes to MP3 players).

When I get a new headunit that will have USB I'm actually going to run the USB into the top glove box - that seems a better place for it (assuming the USB powers/charges the device/iPod of course).

I am thinking of placing an aux Jack in that tray area. where they have the heated seats button (if you have heated seats). but I dont know how to split the aux input at the back of the head unit...
can i just hook up a splitter?

    anyone done that?

Just a heads up opinion as I did run mine to the upper glove box (see gallery). If done again, I would run then to the panel under the bridge with the cigarette lighter. I would also plug my Apple adapter harness directly into the HU so only two USBs are visible. My stealth install is less practical because of the reach from the drivers side. Determine your primarily use of the port/s before deciding, as it may be different than mine. Console port is deactivated.

Don't use a spliter because you loose gain/signal.

My runs are dedicated from the new HU. The AUX is just not used.
You can "move" the existing AUX cable where ever you like if using stock HU. It's a simple relocate. There are links here for access. Have to go load the car for our Thanksgiving trip. Will chime in later.
