I was doing a search online with the words "2020 Prius Prime" and "Android Auto" to see if I could find any new info about it and found the 4 articles further below.

Hopefully they are correct, I am hoping it just wasn't uninformed writers assuming things, but you would think if that info was available to them that Toyota would mention it also unless perhaps Toyota might be afraid it would cause current 2020 Prius Prime sales to drop because many buyers might wait until later units come off the assembly line already Android Auto equipped and not need upgraded after the fact.

Anyhow, below are quotes along with links to the source of the quotes:

…..quote from an article dated Sep 3, 2019

"Those who have held out on purchasing a Prius until Toyota added more in-demand entertainment features can finally put their concerns to rest. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have been added to the entertainment suite, which also includes satellite radio and smart device integration. You’ll also now be able to access Amazon’s personal assistant, Alexa."

BlogsectionWhat You Should Know About the 2020 Prius Prime - Tansky Sawmill Toyota Blog

    …….from an article dated August 30, 2019

"More connectivity options, including Android Auto, should be added at a later date as is the case with select 2020 Toyota models already."

Five Things to Know About the 2020 Toyota Prius - The Car Guide

    …….from an article dated Jun 20, 2019

"Apple CarPlay, along with Amazon Alexa compatibility, comes standard on the Prius Prime. And while some 2020 Toyota vehicles will have Android Auto come standard, Android users will have to wait a bit longer for the Prius Prime to be compatible with their devices."

Blogsection3 Reasons the 2020 Toyota Prius Prime Is the Best Yet

.......from an article dated Jun 27, 2019

"The new Prius Prime now comes with Apple CarPlay, a feature many felt was long overdue. No more paying extra for plug-ins. The Prius Prime also comes with Amazon Alexa, Android Auto, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio standard. The 11.6-inch multi-media display is loaded with intuitive design features that make it feel like your smartphone, but it’s the size of your computer."

Get Even More Excited for the 2020 Toyota Prius Prime

…...so any thoughts anyone ? Think they might be for real or just misinformed writers ?

Good idea ! That would tell if it was available now, but not whether it might be available soon though.

I was checking another Toyota forum and on that forum someone made a post about 4 months ago and sounded pretty sure in how they worded their post, they said:

    (quote)
The first roll-out of AA to 2020 models is expected to see the light of day sometime around Sept/Oct 2019.
This also will include SIRIUSXM standard feature that was announced in February.
This is all part of the newer ENTUNE head units now in production.

Current 2020 models (currently w/o) was informed will be retrofitted
though as to any 411 regarding the specifics, we will have to wait to find out."
    (end of quote)

I can't say whether their source of info is accurate, but they sounded fairly sure of what they posted.

i think they are in camry or something. but they don't do all models at the same time. and they aren't retrofitting CarPlay in any models to my knowledge.

i hope they are right, and i hope it comes to prius. but i wouldn't spend 25-30k hoping, unless it didn't matter either way.

I really want to believe Android Auto is coming soon. We've bought 3 Priuses (Priusi?) but I've decided this is a deal-breaker for me, and I'm going to buy a car in the Spring. Test drove a Honda Insight, and liked it a lot - very similar mileage rating, and Android Auto worked great.

The big screen on the Prius Prime looks awesome, but if it spends most of its area displaying the always out of date and traffic-less Toyota nav map, it's just wasting space.

Can they retroactively add Android auto to the Prius prime or would we need to buy a new one? If so I may not go in today to finish the sale and may just wait until this is resolved. Defeats the purpose of the massive 11.6" screen . Anyone get any details from any dealers? The ones I asked didn't know. I know Mazda retroactively added them into the earlier year models with no issues.

I am in the UK and was considering buying a used plug in Prius from a Toyota main dealer. I asked about android auto and was told that it will be possible to update the multimedia system to android auto next year. As part of the deal I requested that the update be carried out with no charge. After several phone calls they backtracked and would not commit as to whether the upgrade will be available or whether it will be chargeable. Still perhaps a glimmer of hope?

Well considering this can be done with the 2017+ camry models, I have little doubt and tons of hope it'll be doable to the 2020 prius prime as well as it's just a USB update.

So, I've got an ongoing Google Alert watching for "prius android auto". Recently got a hit that Toyota has added Android Auto to the Prius line as of November 1...in Australia.

Apple CarPlay & Android Auto Availability | Toyota Australia

They are offering an upgrade path too:

Toyota introduces Apple CarPlay, Android Auto retrofit - motoring.com.au

"On top of that, Toyota has introduced a retrofit program for owners with the latest generation Prius, Camry or Corolla hatch. Those customers can pay $199 to have the same tech fitted."

Fingers crossed this migrates to the US.

yeah this was posted elsewhere here a few days ago. I think the Australia head unit is different than what we have in USA.

It's doubtful though that any Prius prior to the 2020 version will be retrofittable.

Can anyone with an 11 inch unit in a 2020 Prime actually confirm that it comes with Entune 3? On Toyota's website it looks like it, but this Canadian dealer has a weird hedging note "† Only available on Prius Prime base package.": Toyota Entune System | Downtown Toyota | Toronto, ON

Yeah the base model that shares the headunit with other Toyota models has Entune 3.0 (because it’s taken from Toyota’s parts bin). The 11.6” is only used in the Prius/Prime so I’m guessing Toyota didn’t want to spend money upgrading it. So we’re left with this weird setup where the base model has connected services but higher model don’t.

Do you think the 11.6" 2020 units won't get the Android Auto update?

That's why exploration of a $199 retrofit program is taking place. Will it cover expenses? Is the process easy enough? And how many takers could there be?

If this is true then the real question becomes "Is the 2020 11.6" screen plug-in-play to the 17 to 19 model years? If it's not, how much of a headache would the retrofit be?"

Remember, an important part of this paradigm-shift if to provide new opportunity for service employees.

Hummm, 199 AUD is like 135 USD. At that price point, yeah, I may consider the retrofit. But, I have never used Android Auto, I wonder if I ever need it?
