The stock head unit does not support Android Auto, but if you replace the head unit with one that does, you can re-use the stock USB port. That's more or less what we did- I installed a Sony system and used a cable adapter so that the factory dashboard USB socket connects to the back of the Sony. It's really just a dumb pass-through, like a USB extension cord. Works great.
