    This first link at -

Five Things to Know About the 2020 Toyota Prius - The Car Guide

includes about 1/3 the way down the page:

"More connectivity options, including Android Auto, should be added at a later date"

    and this link:

2020 Toyota Prius in Santa Rosa, CA

seems to show a regular Prius already having "Android Auto" as about 1/3 down the page it says:

    New, standard Android Auto
It’s easy to sync your Android smartphone with the hatchback’s infotainment system using Android Auto. Within seconds of setup, you can access all your phone’s text messages, contacts, music and more from the hatchback’s infotainment system.

......so you would think if a regular Prius can have Android Auto then why not the Prius Prime ?

Has anyone else seen things to indicate that the Prius Prime will eventually be updated to include Android Auto ?

That looks like a deliberate misrepresentation. The features they are careful to list are what the car already allowed you to do without having Android Auto. Seems like they're trying to sucker in people that only know the name Android Auto and not the range of features it provides.

Looks and smells dishonest to me.

Just wondering are the head units (either 11.6" display one or 7" display one) from pre-2019 PRIME different from 2020 PRIME which has the ability to connect Apple CarPlay. Is there any hardware difference, or is it all software?

I tried emailing them for further clarification but have not heard back. Another paragraph I hadn't focused on the first time I read that page did say the 2020 Prius had a 7" screen, here is the quote from that paragraph "Toyota Safety Connect, a larger 7-inch central display and Android Auto are all new additions to the Prius for 2020." (end quote) So since they say Android Auto is a "new" addition for 2020 makes it sound like it should be legit.

Another paragraph on that page included ""Toyota Safety Connect, a larger 7-inch central display and Android Auto are all new additions to the Prius for 2020." (end quote) so I guess none of the regular Prius (non-Prime) have an 11.6" screen.

The first link in my post was referring to the Prime when it said "More connectivity options, including Android Auto, should be added at a later date" so that gives me hope it is a possibility as an update for the Prime at some point.

11.6" display has been available in regular Prius (non-Prime) since 2018. AFAIK, up to 2019 models, the head units are the same. My question is whether the 2020 model head units which are compatible with CarPlay are different from earlier models' hardware or the difference is only in software.

My thinking is that if the differences are in the hardware, I doubt there will be any retrofitting upgrade by Toyota. If it is strictly a software issue, then I can see there may be an update to a new feature (i.e. Android Auto) in later days.

Here is a brochure of 2020 Prius (non-PRIME). You will find the 11.6" display in it.

Thanks for the info, I'm still a relative noob at Prius cars (still waiting on delivery of our first Prime) so I'm trying to get more nd more educated before our Prime gets here :D

There were other web pages I saw in the past that seemed to indicate the Prime being eventually updated to add Android Auto was likely so that would seem to indicate it might simply be software upgradeable.

…...hey, nothing personal against iPhone users, it's just that there are more Android users than iPhone users so it would make sense for Toyota to also make Android Auto available on the Prime, not to mention how costly a new iPhone can be compared to a new Android phone :D

I’d trust Toyota.com and it still only says Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa. No mention of AndroidAuto.

As far as the Prius Prime hopefully being updated to add it in the future I don't think the official Toyota site would make an official announcement on that way in advance, likely might not say anything until they are actually ready to do the updates.

Note that different countries have different head units (even if they're the same size) because they have different software uploaded to them.

That said, the 11.6" screen is unique to the Prime (well I have suspicions that it's also used in the Subaru Outback) but the 7" is used across other Toyota vehicles. Since it's a standard size, they can produce a 7" version with Entune 3.0 installed.
