Hi All, Just bought a 2005 Prius in great condition. However, the alarm is making me crazy. It sounds whenever I unlock the car, whether by remote or keyless entry. I turned off the keyless entry function, but it still sounds when I press the unlock button on the remote. I have to press it again to get it to stop. It is very shocking, especially when using keyless entry. I walk up, stand for a moment to assure my key fob has communicated with the car, touch the door handle and it goes off! Then the car unlocks, I pull open the door and it stops. One day I was just walking by the car with my key in my purse and the alarm went off! I had to find the key in my purse and press the unlock button to turn it off. So strange!

Check the red panic button on the fob to see if it is stuck.

Does this problem happen when you use the second fob instead of the first?

If you only received one fob, I suggest you visit your Toyota dealer soon to purchase a second, because it is extremely costly to register a replacement fob without having a currently registered fob.

I'm having the same issue. Anyone have any updates or suggestions?

Btw mine is an '06 that I bought new. I've had intermittent alarm problem in the past, but never associated with opening the car door like I am now. It happens with both fobs, batteries replaced, 12v battery is less than a year old with a strong signal and clean/tight connections.

So, I will add my own update in hopes that this helps someone else.

I found in other threads that there is something called the hood pin switch near the latch underneath the hood. This is an electrical plug/socket device that is underneath the easy to remove plastic cover from which the latch protrudes. I unplugged it and stuck each end of one paperclip into either side of the plug. This tricks the car into thinking the hood is open and therefore the alarm will not arm. So now my alarm no longer sounds when I open the door using the smart key sks system or by unlocking the car using the key fob button.
