    so my friend sees the airbag light and tells me i should get it fixed since the car is new. well the car is 2014 new and now that comment embarrassed me. i had been procrastinating but the black electrical tape over the ugly light is my quest for tomorrow. maybe some black plastidip or rustoleum over that whole section is next.

    What needs to be "fixed"? And who cares about an idiot light on the dash?

    if the dash light is on, then people think something is wrong. that stance is correct and i agree. otherwise the darn machine should STxU with any stoopid beeps, blinks flashes and finks. and maybe, just maybe, i will forgive the glowing green headlight symbol. but no apologies. hmmmm now do they have 5inch wide black electrical tape to cover both sections of screens?

    What is troll? Is that like asking for a way to fix something that isn't broken and functioning normally because it's embarrassing? You can always sell the car and buy something that's less embarrassing.

    OP, it's not embarrassing, it's a safety feature. The airbags deploy with a lot of explosive force. There is a sensor in the seat that determines whether the occupant in the passenger seat is heavy enough, mainly to prevent the airbag deploying if a child is sitting in the seat, to prevent injury or death from the airbag deploying (nothing to do with the actual crash force).

    So if you have a full sized adult sitting in the passenger seat, and the airbag off light is on, then you have a problem with the sensor in the passenger seat. Likewise if you have a child or adult that weighs less than 80 lbs sitting in the passenger seat and the airbag light says the airbag is on (it should say airbag off, and that individual should not sit in that seat).

    thank you @xliderider for that intelligent response. still yet, the amber warning light is basically warning that the airbag is a constant danger. i suppose it is.

    i don't think that's what it is meant to warn you of. unless you're in a honda with the airbag recall.;)

    You are stating that the light being orange is a warning color, I don't see it as a warning color, but an informational color. You should not be embarrassed, because many new cars have the same indicator. It may be a federal law to have this added to every car. My Mercedes has it as well.

    When I drove around a c, that light was annoying at first too. But gradually I learned to ignore it, and when people ask me about it, I tell them it's always on like that.

    That said, they should have made it so that it only turns on if there's an issue.

    I would have been okay with it only turning on when someone is sitting there. I hate that it's always on, even when there isn't anybody there.

    It's a distraction to the driver. Not the best color and is too bright. But, after a while, you learn to ignore them.

    My wife has learned too well. I just happen to notice the front left tire was punctured. I saw a small brass rod sticking out.
    A very-very slow leak, the tire warning light had most likely been on for weeks.
    Both of us missed seeing the warning. Yeah, I blame the stupid airbag lights for that. Both of them!

    Luckily, the tire still had over 20 PSI.. Had we taken a long road trip, what could have happened?

    Anyways, I'm thinking about some green transparent tape to mute the distraction..

    ~~~~~
    Has anyone heard anything about a recall on the dangerous airbags?
    Specifically the C models?
    The news media has been very vague on this..
    I think your reaction's a leetle over the top, but yeah: maybe that light should come on only if and when the car detects a defect, ie: airbag not activated even tho there's a full grown adult in the seat, or vice-versa. As-is it's a boy-who-cried-wolf-case: nobody notices a light that's constantly on.
    There has to be a reason why there is an airbag light indicting whether or it's "on or off". It's not just there for the hell of it.
    Yeah, there is a good reason.. But, the designer blew the implementation.
    Having two yellow status displays a few inches above all the yellow warning displays ( or warning icons), is just dumb.
    When I say "you learn to ignore them", I'm not kidding. When our C was new, my eyes were always
    attracted to those two yellow status displays. But after a few months that habit stopped, all by itself.
    Both of us who drive the C don't look at the right side of the dashboard display anymore.
    We never noticed the the low tire pressure icon was on. Last week, we only looked at it, after we saw the tire was punctured.
    The status lights for the right passenger seat should be on it's own display, centered on the right side of the car.
    Where it can be easily seen by the passenger and driver.
    Is tape a good idea? Since no children or featherweight adults are ever passengers in our C,
    It might be safer for us to re-train ourselves to monitor the warning display area again..
    We just had our second tire puncture this summer. (After being flat free for decades).
    Tape might be a smart move for some drivers, and a dumb move for others. :)
    Didn't you just contradict yourself? You just said you learn to ignore the status lights, so what difference will it make if they're in a different location. SMH
    I've become accustomed to make a visual inspection of the exterior of the vehicle, including all four tires, every time I approach the vehicle. I've caught several flat/low tires now. I even notice vehicles with low tire pressure when I drive, it's become such a habit.
    Maybe you don't understand. I'll explain. Again..
    No, wait a second! You don't have any idea what I'm talking about!
    This is the C forum. We drive the Prius C models. It's a new smaller Prius version, it's not an old style Prius.
