Air pressure for v Five

Comfort is a relative term on low profile tires, they are all hard as a rock regardless of pressure. I'd suggest going with 5 lb over the recommended pressure on the door post. FWIW, I'm old school and distrust digital gauges. I still use an ancient Accu-Gage, must be 30 years old but it was quality at the time and still is. One good test of a gauge is to repeatedly check the same tire and see what kind of variation you get.

 

I'm at 50 psi now. 10 psi over max sidewall. Going for best mpg possible. Ride comfort hasn't really changed a great deal from max sidewall, maybe you feel the bigger bumps in the road a tiny bit more.

 

You're running 50lbs which is 10lbs over the max sidewall? The max on your tire sidewall says 40psi? That seems really low, what tires do you have? I have the Toyo, my sidewall says 51lbs max and I'm running 40lbs in the front and 39 in the rear and getting 45mpg. The ride feels stiffer which I like because when I cornered harder at the recommended tire pressure, the tire felt way too soft.

 

I know, I thought the same thing. they are yokohama s34b. I'm averaging 52 according to fuelly.

 

I have a Prius v Five and run the Toyo Proxes at 42 front, 40 rear. Definitely a firm ride but I like it that way. Have never tried going higher so don't know how that would feel.

 

I think you're asking for trouble if you're 10 psi over the sidewall limit. You're setting yourself up for a blowout, especially if you drive much on beat-up roads (NYC). Not to mention that excessive tire pressure will lead to more wear and tear on the suspension and steering linkage .

 

Honestly I really doubt 10 psi will cause a blowout... I wont go over that but 50 psi is not much...some people go up to 75 or 80.
