Well, not long after rebuilding the entire front end of my 2005 Prius after someone backed into it, the small rodents (aka rat) have defeated me. After the front end damage, I replaced, the radiator, evaporator, horns, LF fender, both headlight assemblies (nice and clear) and bumper. Everything worked great. A few years earlier I had the dealer replace the HV battery and do a complete brake job. Beautiful car :)

Then one day I came out to go to town, after not driving the car for several days, and discovered a horror. If you've ever seen the original movie The Amityville Horror where there were flies covering all the windows... well that's what I saw. Opening the door to release the flies, I discovered a well dried out body of a field rat. In addition I found a 4" piece of green wire that obviously had been the rats last supper. The car would not start or give me any sign of life.

Pulled it into the shop and started looking for where the chewed wire came from. It's been a couple of months now and I still haven't located the fault. I'm tired of looking (getting too old to get into small spaces).

I'm thinking of parting out this vehicle since many of the parts are practically new (fenders, headlights, radiator, evaporator, etc.) How is the best way to proceed? Is Priuschat the best or should I stoop to Craigslist. I'm rather rural and shipping anything but the smallest parts would be difficult, so I'm looking for pickup sales.

Been a lurker here since 2005, but haven't participated much until now. Would appreciate advice from the experts.

    Thanks
    Bob in Lone Oak, TX

Ebay is always a good place to advertise as breaking but state that if they bid it's for a wheel nut. Get them to message you for the part you want then list it for Ebay rules.

Craigslist, gumtree Facebook groups and Facebook marketplace also are handy

I think he meant to advertise the complete car on ebay as being available for parts, with no intention of actually having anyone bid on that specific auction. Make the photos, comments, etc explain the car is being parted out and to contact the seller to discuss any specific parts you're interested in. Sometimes people will do this, and after being contacted and agreeing to a price, make a quick BIN auction listing for the part the person was interested in and message them the listing number. With that number, they can actually buy-it-now before the listing even shows up on a normal search to anyone else. Anyone that bids on the original auction will receive a lug nut.

Ebay rules forbid you from putting your mobile number and selling off Ebay. They get very ban happy about it. So you do as TMR-JWAP has said. You "sell" a wheel nut but offer other parts available on the promise that you will sell via Ebay.

If it's buyer collects and they want a few bits you only have to use Ebay for one...

I've done similar listings myself and I always ensure all contact/negotiation between myself and the buyer is performed using the ebay messaging system and the item I sell is always done through a BIN auction. Ebay has never given me a problem. They're happy as long as they get their share and you're not trying to use them as a free advertising platform.
