2012 Prius v 5 wagon, XM radio antenna quit working, radio unit is fine, anybody find a source for the proprietary plug on the back of radio unit so an aftermarket XM antenna can be used? Any information on routing of stock antenna wires would be greatly appreciated, followed it from radio to front right corner of cab where it enters a large wire bundle.

Anybody have source for a service manual?

    Thanks

I assume you are getting the message that says the antenna is bad, correct? If so, I would concentrate on the antenna itself on back of the roof and try to get it fixed. No message? Another problem exists.

I am getting the no signal message, my owners manual has the same page in it. Antenna still works for AM, FM, and Nav, so problem is either the antenna itself or it is the wire from antenna to radio, I have opened up the dash and followed wire to couplers on right front corner of the car, do not know where it routes from there and do not want to pull my interior apart until I know how to do so without damaging the plastic pieces. Dealer will not warranty it. I want to put a separate XM antenna on the system, hence my question has anybody found where to get the Toyota plug to hook antenna to radio, the plug that snaps into the rear of the radio and allows an aftermarket antenna to be used.

I doubt it is the cable or you would have the Ck Antenna message. Based on what the chart says, it can determine if the wiring is open or shorted. While I am not positive, I am pretty sure the SAT antenna is separate from the Nav and FM (although in the same black housing). In the diagram above, the SDARS is the satellite portion. The screw on FM/AM would be the main antenna. I would change the base of the antenna on the roof. You can "rent" the service manual for a weekend from a Toyota site here: TIS

Here's a link on the basics of changing an antenna base but on a Gen2 Prius. The base has a preamp for the SDARS and it looks like a conventional FM/AM antenna plug on the Gen2. Apparently the electronics can go bad and impact the satellite.

Yes, the SAT antenna feed is separate from the FM/AM and Satellite, same antenna base, different feed wires, plug into the radio at different plugs.

I would prefer to place an aftermarket antenna on my system over replacing another high priced factory part that has a very long history of failure on it. Hence my question: has anyone found a source for an adapter that will convert the standard XM antenna round wire to the proprietary plug that Toyota uses to attach the antenna feed to the stock radio unit? Splicing these wires would be a last resort, would prefer not doing this.

Great info on service manuals, hopefully the process outlined on the 2nd gen antenna replacement will be the same on my 3rd gen. My closest dealership is a 400 mile round trip.

If you read the referenced link you will find a supplier of a <$100 base.
