Hello y’all, my name is Jacob and this is my first post! I unfortunately had my VSC, ABS, Brake, and tire pressure light come on all of a sudden a couple of days ago. I have a 2009 Prius with 98,500 miles on it. Along with the lights there is a humming/wirey sound that comes on every couple of seconds. That led me to believe it was the actuator. However, after taking it to a mechanic to get a diagnosis, there was no codes aside for the tire pressure (the sensors need replacement). Could the tire sensors affect the codes? If so, what is the humming sound I keep hearing. I’ve been stressing about this because I have no other means of transportation. Hopefully you guys can take some time to help me because I would greatly appreciate it.

The scanner being used can not talk (communicate) with the 14 to 16 ECUs in your Prius. So you can not read all the trouble codes that have been activated. You need a better scanner to find all the trouble codes. Read the first post and then skip down to post #37 in this thread, https://priuschat.com/index.php?posts/3246758. The Autel AP200 is a very good choice for a scanner to purchase.

The humming you hear is the brake pump. You probably have trouble code C1391, which indicates that the pump can not maintain the brake pressure because there is an internal leak in the brake actuator. This is a very common problem for a Prius.

You can also read the brake trouble codes by blinking lights on the dash. I will try to find the link for you.

Thank you!! I just ordered the scanner and I’m going to go from there. I appreciate your kindness and will keep you updated.

Interesting. That's a high end Snap-On scantool and certainly is capable of scanning all systems on a Gen2. (I have a "mid range" version at work)

Not sure exactly what's going on, but I would want to sure that all systems respond during the "full" code scan.

98,500 miles.. i thought the actuator lasts much longer..

I did replaced mine at 147,500 miles. Same year (2009). Also there were no lights, just the annoying noise every 10 seconds or so.

Where in Texas are you located? I have the Autel scanner (AP 200) and live in north Dallas area.

Do those Snap-On scanners have a subscription to access the advanced features? Maybe the subscription has not been renewed and has reverted to a basic scanner.

The ones that I use have a subscription for updates - the super duper ones also have "advanced online hand-holding diagnostics".

No subscription means that the scantool's functionality becomes static. It won't add coverage and added tests for newer cars, but it also won't lose anything either (except for the online stuff, if you have that).
