$2994 is the correct price for the battery. GM also sells the three cell groups seperately for around $1000 each.

it sounds like the volt battery is not a staright forward replacement, and may be repaired in some ways, depending on what is wrong.

so, what is 'gm parts online'? if it's not official, how can they use the name?

It just means that you're not buying the parts from GM themselves, it's a dealer.

...the article says Volt batteries guaranteed 8yr/100000 miles, but do they also have CARB extension to 10yrs/150000 miles?

From what I could find, the battery warranty still hasn't changed.

It might be a requirement for cars eligible for California HOV stickers. PZEV is a no cost option on the Volt build page. I wonder what is the percentage of cars on the lot have it?

The 8yr/100k mile warranty for the battery might very well be due to the federal emission warranty. Without the battery, a hybrid can't achieve its higher fuel economy or emission rating. So it likely falls under emission related parts.

There is a go chance any check engine light repair could fall under that warranty for any car.

ok thx but i still do not believe it then the prius battery would cost 10 times less then it does now...
if you look what you get and the price for cells these days even the cheapest Litium on ebay i can find are not that low.
they must lose money on those battery packs.

I guess it's better to lose money than chase people away with $34,000 batteries. :D

How many have had to be replaced?
Getting a hold of the bad pack to study is probably worth more to GM than losing some money on the few replacement ones sold. Seeing how most replacements are under warranty at this point, the low price might help balance on warranty costs.

i am talking about the replacement when its really needed
at some point they need to be replaced and on all they sold! and then they will need to sell it at these cheap prices for every single one thet made.. or maybe by then the prices will go up of the packs ......
i geuss they just made the volt more expensive to they could keep the replacement cheaper?

low price help on warranty cost? uh? thats the case if they need to buy it from someone else but GM makes those batterys right? they price it at these low prices

look at what battery price is per kwh then you see this less then 3000 for that large pack is unreal cheap...
heck i would buy a volt battery pack for any EV i would want to build its dirt cheap!

How many Prii have had to have their battery pack replace? How old and how miles were they when it was needed?

The Volt uses 10something kWh out of a 16kWh pack. Which is a decent buffer, and better than most of the other PHVs now available. It also uses a liquid temperature management system. I expect the battery will last the useful life of the car. The consensus for that seems to be 200k miles. There is still some question on how lithium batteries will hold up over the long haul, and there will always some cells that die before the average time. By the time this starts happening outside of the warranty period, there will be refurbished batteries available, and maybe small companies doing cell or replacements. As there was for the Prius, which didn't have a firm pack replace cost down by the beginning of the 2nd generation.

i have driving car more then 320.000km and i expect with cars like the HSD system and ampera/volt they will last longer then that
car today can drive more and mroe miles
so the usefull life will be far longer then 200kmiles.
