The article doesn't say what kind of alcohol it was. I've had American mass-market beers. It may be that he wasn't having an enema to get drunk more quickly, but just to improve the taste.
INCREDIBLY STUPID. If I was a parent, and any kid of mine was involved in activities like this while going to college on my dime? College time would be over.... I don't care if it makes me sound old and crotchety....but what happened to going to College being about learning and getting a degree? I know youth will celebrate....youth....but "Alcohol Enemas" is going out of your way to strive for higher levels of STUPIDITY....in what is suppose to be a college of higher learning.
