When I got in my Prius this afternoon to drive home from work I noticed an annunciater lamp lit on the dash--The low tire pressure light. That morning of day 2 I had checked the air pressure of the tires thinking the dealer may have left the tires at a low pressure, 34/32. I checked the tires and three tires were 44 and the left rear was at 23! Thinking my dealer had failed to check the tire pressure in any of the tires, I adjusted the cold pressure to 42/40 so when I saw the warning light this afternoon I was puzzled. I drove home, about a 25-mile trip, and when I got home and looked at the tires I could immediately see that the right rear was low--way low. Checked with the gauge and it was 8 PSI! Well, I knew right then and there it was not the dealer that had failed to check and adjust the air pressure, there was something wrong with the tire. I jacked up the car with the new jack and tools and sure enough there was a great big old screw in the middle of the thread. I'll get it repaired tomorrow. By the way the little spare doughnut tire is ugly. the rim is primed in yellow.

While changing the tire, I thought of a couple of questions:

What is the metal hook that is stored to the far left of the storage box? It is not part of the jack and is certainly not the tire iron or the tow hook. Anybody know what it is for? Also I noticed a battery on the far right rear of the Prius, under a cover. Is that where the aux. battery is located?

And one last question, did I damage my tire driving it at 8 PSI for 25 miles?

    Thanks for the help

    Joe

I really don't know if you damaged the tire or not. I would probably take a chance on it, but that's me. Why not ask the tire shop to inspect it and see what they say, that is if you trust them not to try and sell you a tire you don't need. Yes that is where the 12 Volt battery is located. Not sure what the hook is without looking but I bet the owners manual would tell you.

    Tire, don’t know.
Battery in trunk is the 12volt battery that you need to know about so read you manual.
Hook is the tow hook that is really an eyelet and it screws into your front bumper just under that little round cap.

I have a question for you.
Does the 07 still have all six covered storage compartment in the front seat area like the 06?

There's one on the front of the console that pulls forward, there's another overhead by the map lights and I only have one for the console unless you count the cup holders with covers.

As for the tire, see what the dealer/tire store says. I picked up large screw/nail, that poked a hole bigger than what is allowed to be repaired. Ended up buying a new tire two months after picking up the Prius.

The hook you mention, is it sort of L shapped, on the far left rim of the storage box? If so, it's used to hold up the cover to that storage area, the same way you'd prop open the trunk of a car.

For the tire, i'd simply take it in, tell them you need it repaired, and see what happens... assuming it's repairable, they'll patch it and most likely check it over to make sure nothing else is wrong. I wouldn't ask them about damage due to driving on it when it was that flat - they might see dollar signs and try to upsell you because of it (either ethidcally or unethically). Simply put, if you take it in to be repaired and they give it back to you and it still has problems, then they didn't do their job... take it back, loudly complain infront of other customers. That usually seems to get good service, as well as discounts.

    1. Top glove box
    2. Bottom glove box
    3. Center glove box
    4. Eye glass holder in ceiling
    5. CD storage area/in arm rest
    6. Pull out drawer under the front cup holder

    Others

    1. Area under the left side of the trunk
    2. Under the trunk

    I think that is it.

And don't forget to reset your tire pressure sensor after you get all of the tires back in order.
