In somewhat related news, GM is putting out 3 concept mini-cars at an upcoming show to see what kind of public support they get. Could be the start of a late refocusing on their small car market, but they're all Korean made (I assume from Daewoo), like the cheap Aveo, so quality could again be an issue. A sensibly-sized car is a good thing, unless it gives them all a bad name.

As usual, GM has not figured out that the majority of the population doesn't WANT puny little cars regardless of mileage. Yeah, they sold some Geo Metros and I know at least one person who likes his a LOT. But, for most people, it was not very desirable. So, GM will put out these little cars, they won't sell and they'll say "See we HAVE to make big vehicles that get cr@p mileage".

I'm sorry to rant, but it seems GM spends a LOT more money on "We can't do it" lawsuits and advertizing big gas hogs than having their engineers work to solve the problem. Must be a big slap in the face to the Big 3 engineers. Basically they are saying "Our engineers are too stupid to solve the problem". Toyota and Honda engineers HAVE done a lot with the Hybrid Prius and Civic, not so much with the Camry (still leaning toward the "gotta have more power" side) and the Hybrid Accord that has more than enough power with the V6 VCM which renders the electric engine is pretty much useless. Even so, all of these would more than meet the proposed clean air, mileage requirements. That SHOULD put the "can't be done" argument to bed but nope, those lawsuits continue.

meh.. those 3 microcars will be built in China or India and apparently won't meet US safety standards.

Another display of a disfunctional business whose business model hasn't worked in 30 years. It's not the engineers.......it's the business being run quarter by quarter.

Are you sure they look that far ahead? Ford increased their payroll over $2 million per month so they may be just looking to cover Payroll's next check cycle.
