So driving a new 2010 Prius for a while I found many Other brand car drivers would seem to take it as an insult to their brand of car that I was passing them. What! This can't be, I am being passed by one of those Tree Hugging Eco friendly gas sipping electric cars and they then would speed up because there isno way they let such a insult to Detroit Muscle Cars happen. But now is different! Now they look and think, there goes one of those Toyotas, his gas pedal must be stuck wide open, better stay out of his way cause I heard the breaks don't work in those things either!  Let's watch and see what happens!

I have never thought that I could read the minds of drivers around me, nor have I noticed any unusual glances or reactions. Honestly, I don't think they care what car I'm passing, or being passed, in.

I like it. My gas pedal is stuck to the floor and the brakes don't work so you better get out of my way!:D Mabe you should design a bumper sticker with this theme.

I've had my Prius for two weeks now and so far I've been gingerly driving it trying to maintain 52-53 mpg combined. It's a far cry from 4 years ago when I was leadfooting a Mitsu EVO which always had an empty tank by 190 miles = 13.7 mpg

People are predictable. They simply don't like to be passed. It's as though they feel they are losing something by being passed. So there have been times when I've caught up with people under control of the cruise control only to have them speed up when I get to their side. Then, of course, they don't like the higher speed so they start to slow down. Since I'm still on cruise, I catch up to them and the cycle repeats. It's stupidly humorous.

I've also used people's resistance to being passed to my advantage. Sometimes I will accelerate hard from a stoplight if there's a car to my side and a merge ahead. Of course the other car will take it as a challenge (and insult) and speed up. This frees up the space behind them which is where I wanted to be anyway. And they are still speeding right along now way ahead of me.

One thing that I have noticed about drivers like this is that not only do they do not like to be passed, they do not like anyone in front of them either. They will dart in and out of traffic to get ahead of everyone, then when you pull up to the next traffic light you are right beside them. Go figure.

I want a bumper sticker that says "ALL OF MY ACCELERATION IS INTENTIONAL!!"

and when you're on cruise control, they'll pass you, pull in front of you and slow down so you have to step on the brake. don't they know my brakes don't work?
