I'm on the road without my handbook, and a dashboard light has started blinking after I turned off the engine. It is a car outline with a key in it. I would guess this means "there is a fob in the car" but it continues to blink even after I removed the fob. I've never noticed this before, but it could be I'm just not observant. What does this mean and should I be worried that something is wrong or I amd raining my battery?

It's your theft "deterrent" light (simply meant to discourage thieves when you're not around)... perfectly normal, no FOB issue... :)

Does that mean it blinks all the time when the engine is off? I can't believe I never noticed it before! D'oh!

Yeah, it blinks the moment the car is switched off. The "No Key Detected" symbol is the yellow key light.

 The Owner's Manual is a great source of information. The 2004 Manual explains the "blinking light" on pages 20 and 44 - likely near the same pages on the 2005 manual.

One day when I carpooled, my wife borrowed Priapus to drive to the gym. When she shut the car off a scary-looking icon started blinking. For that reason, she promptly started the car again and called me. I had to reassure her that it's completely harmless and it's supposed to do that.

Mine doesn't. It's steady for 30 seconds, then it blinks to show that the alarm is now set. I don't know why they have designed a 30-second delay in the alarm switch

I generally advocate that members look in the owner's manual before posting questions; however, did you read the following in Bluebell's original post?

I enjoy it so much to read about things on this forum rather than read a dull manual. Besides, I happen to be male (nuff said) If you don't like that the poster didn't look it up themselves, don't answer them......

    We don't need "manual" police.

Those silly people at Ford... always trying to cram in more horsepower than people really need, any way they can...

The alarm light is a fine reminder of how inobservant we are, that is, of how difficult and subtle accurate observation really is. Seeing a magician perform live can have the same effect: you *know* it's just slight of hand and indirection, but that doesn't necessarily make it any easier to see what's actually happening.
