Hi all, I have a 2004 with 210,000 miles and all is well. Just saw a Firestone coupon (9.99) for an A/C performance check, which is suppose to "check for worn hoses and seals, test system for pressure leaks or contaminations". My A/C has never been "checked". I'd like to know what you all think about whether this service is useful? $10 is not much to spend. Thanks!
Unless you are having issues, leave well enough alone. Indies can ruin a Prius AC system. That 9.99 may cost you more than you bargained for. Buyer beware!
i don't trust them. your a/c probably isn't long for this world. i would run it until it breaks, than decide what to do. if you really want someone to test and check everything, take it to toyota or an a/c shoppe that understands prius high voltage compressor and special freon.
Oh man don't touch that. Instead of that waste of time why don't you actually do something to help your ac system. Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a can of spray ac coil cleaner. Take the plastic cover off the radiator so you can get to the condenser and hose the front of the condenser off with that coil cleaner. Flush with water. Clean condenser will make the ac much cooler and cooler ac means cooler compressor means longer life which means less $$$ out of your pocket. Then if you really want to help the ac buy a can of Kool It off amazon.com and it comes with a special rubber hose that attaches to the condensate drip tube under the car. Inject that cans contents into the drip tube and it will clean the e-coil under the dash resulting it much more efficient cooling and better smelling cabin.
