5th Gen has an electronic parking brake. Has anybody pulled off at tire to look at the inner workings of the system?

When Toyota moved the Prius from the drum brakes to disc brakes the parking brake mechanism and the required "pad alignment" seem to create an issue where rear brake wear and rotor deterioration/ rust was accelerated.

Can anyone speak on the similarity of the front and rear disc brakes on the 5th generation?

Is it likely this issue won't exist on the 5G?

Any additional MX for rear brakes on 5G?

    Thanks

I got the impression the wear was accelerated only if you put 'em together wrong. Mine have been doing just fine.

The whole "pad alignment" thing is pretty straightforward: there's a pin that has to fit into a notch. If it doesn't, you've put 'em together wrong.

Our sons CX5 has auto parking brakes. I was replacing rear pads, and getting nowhere trying to screw in the pistons. Looked it up finally, and found there was a chicken dance* required, and once that took it was easy, just push them in. You’d want to check on Toyota Tech Info for 5th gen Prius brakes; doubt anyone’s scooped a pdf copy as yet.

    * combo of button and pedal pushes, that puts the car in some sort of maintenance or override mode.

The pins were seized when I bought my 10' and I replaced the entire rear brake system. I won't ever know how long they will last, but my drums in my 08' lasted to nearly 300k. Hoping the 5G uses a lot of re-gen and a a little bit of brakes!
