It's not going to be hydrogen, that's an entirely different design that's not compatible with Prius drivetrain... But knowing the sleazy nature of Toyota supporting fossil fuels over all electric I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to spin hybrid cars running on "hyrdrogen" in the "future" so they can make use of all their hydrogen fuel cell patents while also ingratiating themselves with fossil fool companies who are hell bent on destroying our planet.

 

That's when I stopped reading. BEV proponents are blind to the fact that EVs are still expensive, and that hybrids/PHEVs will have to be part of the transition. If you want to know the impact of hybridizing the fleet, just look at Europe where Toyota has the lowest fleetwode emissions among the top 20 manufacturers.

 

The conversation about hybrids as a viable transition to all electric was a worthwhile conversation 1/4 century ago. But now instead of it being a transition, it's the fossil fool industry using the "hybrid transition" to intentionally stall, delay and obstruct the transition.

Yes, EVs are terribly expensive so today:

• 66,873 miles total miles
• -7.5% = (240 - 222) / 240 battery range loss
• SuperCharger expansion on 700 mi trip to Coffeyville
  • 2019 required 3-4 hours L2 charging midway
  • 2021 SuperChargers all the way, ~15-20 minutes, bathroom and snack breaks
• $2.75 / 100 miles around town
  • free charging around town reduces this to ~75%, ~$2.06 / 100 miles
• $3.50 / 100 miles on SuperChargers
  • $3.00 / 100 miles if staying at motels with free charging and breakfasts

Yeap, EVs are terribly expensive.

Looks like a mashup of Gen4 existing material with guess work tbh. Traditionally Toyota change at the barest minimum rear lights with any facelift or gen change. These look the same as my 2019 facelift.

 

what we know so far about the Next Gen Prius is " Not to Much" ! Maybe it's supposed to be a surprise or somethin.

 

Or maybe they want us to think its a suprise cause that's about all they got left?

There were earlier reports of the Prius getting an engine that uses hydrogen instead of gasoline in some markets. They do have a Corolla running around with a prototype engine.

This should have happened years ago as an effort to support hydrogen infrastructure until FCEVs became feasible, but emissions may have been the hold up.

Based on viewing it , my best guess is no information of any kind really exists about Gen V, let’s hope there is a Gen V and 1st party information drops

 

Hydrogen? Do they have a feasible network? If not it will be relegated to California.

 

I can't believe we are still talking about hydrogen. It just isn't viable...given the direction the industry is going (BEVs).

And I want the new Aqua ( Prius C ) here in the USA. Still bummed Toyota dropped it. Very bad timing from Toyota as well...given gas prices. I bet they could have sold quite a few of 'em.

 

As far as hydrogen concerned think “LPG” and what a failure that was.
I would love a Mirai. But I have 2 hydrogen outlets 50 miles apart…

 

My main point I was implying is that BEVs have usurped any other 'alternative' fuel at this point ( except perhaps for fleet vehicles ). At one point Hydrogen may have been viable...but it has been stuck in development and logistical hell for too long.

Just mentioning hydrogen in this forum with either a neutral or positive context is just asking for pain.
There is no shortage of EV exclusive enthusiasts here.
After enough mechanics get the full dose of EV, can't wait for the new breed that gets their hands on and certs of a hydrogen power train, literally .

 

Being anti-hydrogen has nothing to do with being pro-EV.

For example, let's look at natural gas. It is the main source for hydrogen. Starting with the same amount of NG, a CNG Camry hybrid can go about the same distance as a Mirai. The hybrid is far cheaper than the FCEV, as is its fuel. Making green hydrogen may be cheaper than green methane, but getting it from where renewable electricity is cheap to where it is needed jacks up the price simply because of hydrogen's physical nature. That's without considering hydrogen infrastructure needs to built, while there is already over 2 million miles of NG pipeline in the US.

Transporting hydrogen long distances is so impractical, that the industry is looking to convert it into ammonia or methanol for the journey. Both of those chemicals can be used as a fuels themselves. The methanol production even involves making methane as an intermediary. Why then expend energy at the destination to free the hydrogen? Why not just use those fuels instead?

 

I would add the Prius V that turns out to be a great taxi.
