57011 Head Unit ‘System Not Installed’

On our 2012 Prius v Five, for going on a year, we experienced the 57011 Head Unit ‘System Not Installed’ error intermittently, increasingly frequently, which has now become chronic.

AUDIO is fine on AM/FM/HD. We don’t use satellite.

The APPS switch on the HU is non-functional, MAPS and NAV and Bluetooth phone link to audio are dead.

Steering wheel commands still control the Audio.

What are people doing to remedy the 57011, anyone with good repair vendors, and are there drop-in replacements that use the steering wheel inputs?

Thanks. A possibility, though I’ve found pre-owned eBay electronics can be sketchy, especially where performance of multiple assemblies, in this case both HU and extension box, are concerned.

 

Is the 86100-YY050 extension box universal and available separately?

R&R’d the old with a used working 2014 vintage YY050 extension box, got back APPS, MAPS, and Bluetooth.

Diagnostics show head unit, extension box, GPS, USB present.

Deleted prior owner’s phone contacts and stored locations. GPS isn’t syncing. Still thinks it’s in prior owner’s neighborhood.

Trying to update Entune version with the 5.2 ISO from a previously used 14A Toyota thumb drive, but not getting any recognition of its presence in the USB port.
