Picked up the car Jan 2,2018. Have over 3000 miles and 1/8 tank of fuel left. 24 miles to work one way and I charge at work. And New York winter has been rough. But love the car (90% ev). 1521613248405.jpg

Keep in mind that water is more likely to condense in the tank if it is near to empty.......especially spring and fall with temperature swings.

And I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with gas in the tank over 90 days old.

There is NO good reason to drive around very long with only 1/8 tank of gas.

I'm inclined to agree. The only reason for running the tank so low is to post pics here, lol. If you top up sooner, it doesn't change your mpg. We fill up infrequently due to low usage, every 3~4 weeks, and I figure anytime it's dropped below half full, pull in the next time you're passing your gas station of choice.

I have 3 atv's, 3 motorcycles,1 side by side, 1 dirtbike, zero turn lawn mower ect. I dont swap the gas out after 90 days. Not in a hurry to fill the tank so it can sit in there all summer till winter time either.

But thank you for your opinion.

I'm in the same boat, but my mileage is a little lower (and I have more gas in the tank). My gas is from the end of last Summer.

    Congrats OP, good work!

Based on your incredible fuel mileage, consider a few ounces of "STA-BIL" fuel stabilizer for your next fill up. And because all of your toys & lawn equipment I'm sure you're already very familiar with STA-BIL products.

Keep in mind that a lot of PHEV engineering teams have put a lot of thought into this too. From software that monitors the time gas spends in the tank and burns it off accordingly to a pressurize and sealed fuel tank that greatly reduces gasoline oxidation/degradation, fuel condition is of little worry to this PHEV owner who's currently at 2,400 miles with 1/3rd of tank remaining. Where does this supposed water condense from?

I have never had water in my gas tank. Either in my previous ice cars or my Prius C. Never had to buy gas line antifreeze either and yes I live in Ontario Canada we do get as low as -40 deg C in Winter. One more thing is when my tank is empty I have always filled it, never just put $10 bucks in till need again.

    Times have changed!

Back in 1976 I had a Fiat 128SL and spent two winters just North of Chicago. I had several incidents of carburetor icing. Think it was caused by humid air, moisture in the gas, low temperature and the “Venturi Effect”. On one highway trip, the car just slowed, slowed, slowed to a stop. Sat there a couple of minutes and I think the ice melted enough and the car would restart. Traveled a short distance, and the car slowed to a stop again. Then, things improved and we were able to continue our trip.

Wonder if pulling air from behind the radiator would have help that.
