Somewhat disappointing recharge time, but given the size of the car I am guessing the batteries are a bit larger to power everything.

It's great to have a "normal" car that's all electric, but that's just not gonna cut it. No one will like the max speed of 80 MPH and it's range of only 120 miles at 60 MPH isn't very far, but the car is bigger than most electric cars.

I predict a quick demise for the car.

 

Isn't this the Chinese built car that failed all of the crash tests?

 

I don't know, I think 80 MPH is as fast as I'd ever need to go. Adn the range is as far as I'd ever need to go too. But if it's Chinese made, that's kind of a deal breaker.

The story is scarce on details but he wants to build the car in China but there is no mention that it is a converted existing model. Built from scratch it could be good or bad in crash tests.

These are the higher speed Europe NCAP tests which are pretty violent crashes.

On a side note, I find it really funny how everyone's been focusing on all these Chinese mishaps. Everyone's quick to forget the kazillion products we all buy and love (such as my precious Apple products) that aren't pieces of crap but ARE made in China. Not Jim though.

Apple does quality control on those, not the Chinese government. All it goes to show it that they *can* make quality, safe products if they chose to.

 

I will believe the $30k price tag when I see it, the cost of US safety modifications and testing will stress this claim to the max, we'll see.

Precisely my point, although stated a bit more obviously. Just because Miles is looking to have this car made in China, we have to assume that THEY will be taking responsibility for quality control. Some of the earlier comments seemed to suggest that just because it will be made in China means it will suck. It may, but it's not yet a given.

 

Same car? I don't think so. Not if the car that went through the test was a Brilliance model. The basis for the Miles car is a Hafei Sai Bao. And, yes, it's an existing model which is going to be modified for EV.

A 6 hour recharge from an "ordinary wall plug" ... does that mean at 115v, standard voltage? That's actually pretty good. Or are they playing with the specs a bit and you'll have to install a 240v outlet?

A 120 mile range would be good too. My commute is 45 miles each way, so that would give me enough "breathing room" to be comfortable.

 

As I said in the other thread. They have to pass American Saftey standards to be sold here, they are good enough for me as I don't plan to drive long distance with this car. As for quality, they better come up with a damn good warranty for it!

But to me this looks like a low tech but interesting approach. I would prefer a tesla but hey, I need at least 4 doors (would prefer station wagon).

I doubt they will make their schedule but one can hope
