These States Have Suspended State Gas Tax – Forbes Advisor

Can't wait to see the size of potholes and their impact on ever larger rims with skinny tires. Plus? Since most people are driving pickups, SUVs, & other tall wind resistant vehicles - will RVs and the like really get that much of a benefit? Maybe the extra cash saved can be used for tire flat repairs? It's likely to help independent interstate truckers though.

Replace it with the EV annual fee and we’ll all be happy.

should I bet how many in Europe have been wondering how spoiled americans are about the price of gas?
I wonder how close @Trollbait estimate is to actual, of what gas prices in the US would be without gov incentives at $15

    Virginia may be next.
MD is only 1-month, but we hope to take advantage. We tend to buy a lot of gas traveling thru Maryland to western Pa.

Both Maryland and Virginia used the Trump Tax Cut and Jobs Act as an excuse to raise state taxes, by disallowing many people to itemize on their state deductions. So they ( at least Virginia) have surplus to temporarily replace the lost road taxes.

I never personally saw much benefit of the Trump tax cuts because the state moved in to take the modest savings we otherwise might have seen.

Then raise hybrid & plugin registration fees . . . . penalize those who use less fuel.

I would think it would only be fair, that they then raise taxes when the gas price drops.

Drops? With dollar devaluation & no end to war in sight, & the US government trying to shut down US production?

Where did you get the idea the US government is trying to shut down production. Production dropped with the drop in price and demand with covid. It has been increasing since and will soon be higher than in 2019. Oil companies don't believe the price will stay this high or US oil production would be increasing faster. Cost of new wells is higher with the cost of raw materials and labor. It takes time and if price drops a lot in a year that investment may be stranded.

Opinion: What would it take for U.S. oil companies to ramp up production? A lot. - MarketWatch

The local state gas men always talked about the panacea of $10,000 annual registration taxes and removal of gas tax.

Socioeconomic fallout of current world events. A lot like every / many other wars that threatens a large enough group of the worlds political heavy weights feat: their allies. Redrawing political boundaries has its costs. Oil reserves is a biggy no matter how anyone explains the political conflicts away. Just because it's not the US going to war, doesn't mean it's any less important to the world economy, including our (US) own.
