I acquired my stepson's high-mileage, "spartan model" 2010 and did the head gasket repair that he declined to do. I'm blown away by how much more powerful the 2010's heater is on a cold Indiana day. My daily driver had a been a fully-loaded 2009 with 3 door smart key system. I got spoiled being able to open all doors by approaching the passenger side and tailgate, a feature that this newly-gasketed spartan 2010 model doesn't have. Anyone in this group know if all early Gen 3s have wire harnesses connectorized for the extra 3 door unlock receivers? If constructed like my 2009, the Gen 3 3-door unlock versions should have SKS receivers in the passenger side front door and the spare tire cavity. I'm starting to see Gen 3s in junk yards, no doubt due to head gasket issues and too many birthdays. I'm contemplating buying additional smart key receiver modules to upgrade my 1 door SKS system to a 3 door variant, but only if the wire harness has connectors for them. And is Techstream tool reprogramming necessary to enable the new SKS receivers?
In a generation 2 base without SKS would requireore parts and harnesses than it's worth . I can just change the car .I have looked at this problem pretty extensively.thw base or non SKS do not have harnesses or receivers. I look at 2 to 40 of these cars a week at salvage yards . In all stages of disassembly.good luck
