We now have 28,000 miles on our 2006 Prius & the tires still look to have plenty of tread left on them. How does this compare with your experiences with tire wear ? This car is primarily driven by my wife who drives like an "old lady". My 2008 HH has less miles & less tread. Wonder why ? Thanks. Bill in FL
I got 41,000 Miles on my 2008 before I had to replace the tires. Stock tires for base model (Good Year Intergrity) comes with 50,000 mile warranty.
I got 14K on the OEM tires before they went bald. I replaced them with Wal-Mart BF-Goodrich touring tires and I have almost 78K on them now. they still pass inspection but i will be replacing them before next winter.
I got 63K out of the OEM tires on my '04, with some treadlife remaining. I now have nearly 50K on the OEM tires on my '06, with lots of treadlife remaining. Never have done an alignment on either car, but rotate every 5K and keep pressures around 40 psi.
14k? Bald? Then walmart tires last 78k? Sorry but thats a bunch of bull. To the OP i have around 41,000 on my stock tires and will get at least 10,000 more.
Hard to say, but I do question whether it was actually bald or a tire guy just tried to sell you something you didn't need. If it's actually bald, you can run your fingers across the tire and/or do the penny trick. I've learned to not trust just one service tech's opinion or measurement.
i have 25,000 on my 08 and the tires look like new. my 04 had 35,000 when i sold it to my daughter and she replaced them around 50,000 with nokians which started cupping around 20,000.
realy? ok, I guess threads showing on one and two of them looking like the slicks on my old drag car might be good where you come from, but in NY they are bald. and the wal-mart tires now have 80K on them after the last two trips to Boston. since they are a touring tire with an 80K rating i'd say they are spot on. still pass inspection but i'm getting close to the wear bars.
How many miles were on your stock tires? In this thread you made it sound like only 14,000 and they were bald. I did some looking you said you bought your car with 30,000 on it. In the first post you made on this site. Did you mean you had 44,000 on the stock tires and they were bald? 30,000 from the oraginal owner plus 14,000 you put on? Now i'm confused. LOL
Very Good question; 14K from when I bought it. The dealer told me the tires had just been replaced..... now I do remember seeing the small tabs of rubber still on at least the one tire I checked (it was snowing hard that day) all I can say for sure is 14K on what I was told and apreared to be new tires. I remember when I looked them up online while I was looking for replacments they only had a tread wear rating of 300, the BF-Goodrich touring tires on it now have a tread wear rating of 600.
Ok they were the stock tires. I have 41,000 on my stock tires and they still have half of the little small tabs on the sides corners of the tires. I really believe that person lied to you. I really think they were the tries that came on the car. Thats why you only got 14k more on them then they were "bald". I can believe that. They will spray stuff on the tires that make them shine more than new tires.
I used to drag and race dirt track, I know what a "bald tire" and these fit that bill. the back two looked like drag slicks and one of the front ones had threads showing. I gotta tell you by the end of that winter I was ready to take the car back because it drove so bad in the snow. then I got a look at the tires, and had them replaced. I never figured I'd have to even look at them that soon after buying the car. keep in mind that 14K was but on in the first two months of buying it and in a Buffalo winter. as a rule I never put tires on that don't have at least a 500 tread wear rating just because of all the driving I do. I didn't even think to see what the tire make was until i had to replace them, bought the car without even a test drive (I drove a blue 2007, mine was in the shop getting new headlights)
I got 46K out of my original set of tires, but that was pushing it. I was down to the wear marker and then some! Replaced with Yokohama Touring.
I only got about 18 mos and 23K miles on the stock GY Integrity tires. They were just about down to the wear indicators at that point. I have almost 40K on the Pirelli P4's that replaced them and they are probably good for another 20K (at least one more winter).
we replaced OEM tires on our 2006 at 54,000 miles which was good considering they are rated at 50,000 miles, but did have an easy life for the first 30,000 mile or so (mostly done at 40 mph or less) they could have gone longer, but the work was done by my sister (she works at Ford Dealership) while we were at Disneyland as we really could not afford to have the car out of commission for any length of time we also had her do a 4 wheel alignment check and there were ZERO issues despite being in 2 relatively minor accidents. now one was in the front end and SO states the car was lurched sideways which is reason we had alignment check...so all is well
