Using maps.google.com as a guide to the available map data, I figure by 2014 they MIGHT update the data to include my house. Until then, I'm not expecting much I could USE out of any updates...

Sounds good. My 2005 has version 4.2 of the NAV DVD. I'm assuming the 5.1 loader will work with the '05.
When my ship comes in (not really, but I'm going to start collecting S.S. within two months), I'll order version 6.1.

You mention additional features. Do the additonal voice commands then work on '04 - '05 with the new DVD?

Slow down, Nate.

The 2006 has the high-resolution display. Yet you propose using the 5.1 program from the 2005. I think it won't work, because the display is so different.

More importantly, I hope it won't cause anything to go permanently haywire.

Naterprius--

This won't work (HyCam DVD kwi file w/ Prius on a 2006) because I've tried. The Prius will read the map data just fine, put pretty much ignore the .kwi file (unless you pull out the Nav and reset it on the board-- then you will get some funny Japanese writing until you install the Prius disc).

There WAS a guy in Australia who had a 2006 who said he was able to access the OVERRIDE function. I tried getting a copy of his disc, but he wasn't really knowledgeable about how to do it. I think at this point, I may just get the Coastal Lockpick and not worry about it...

He's not able to copy the kwi. file. I think he told me his computer doesn't have a dvd drive on it. I had even gone so far as to offer to pay for 1/2 of a new disc for him if he sent me his old one, but the cost of that would be more than a Coastal Lockpick... I think I've sent a PM to EVERY aussie member on PriusChat to see if any of them might be able to help, but I've not really found any that could.

Now I would absolutely LOVE to have this for my 2005 (which still has a 4.2 DVD). But I can't imagine the Toyota lawyers will let you (or anyone) redistribute their precious DVD data, nor will they do ANYTHING that might make overriding their beloved nanny-lockouts easier. And I can't financially justify buying both a 5.1 disc (already obsolete) AND a 6.1 disc to make my own Franken-disc (that's $500-600).

I could justify buying just a 6.1 disc, but would that work with the 4.2 loader??? Of course, if I stumbled upon the 5.1 loader file somewhere, my problem would be solved!

Gotcha.

One question here is that we're assuming that there are no new features that would be really nice with 6.1. By running 5.1 software with new data, all you get is the later map data.

Have you checked that 6.1 doesn't provide any changed features? (Aside from taking away the override.) Have you been through all the menus and there are no apparent changes?

It's also possible that there are changes that are difficult to see, like better route calculation, minor bug fixes with routing and time estimates, things like that.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone could find Release Notes...

 

This sounds interesting.

Can you download a trial of HEX workshop and do a compare?

If the one thing that changed in the file is a few bits you should only find the change and maybe a checksum at the end of the file.

If you could zip up the two files and send them to me I can look them over.

Ahh. Only one bit difference. Then possibly we could take the 6.1 DVD, change that bit in the LOADING.KWI file and reburn the 6.1 DVD to allow the override to work.

Can I do basically the same thing except substitute the voice file for the US Nav lady with the voice file for the British Nav lady? Has anyone experimented with this?

 

I currently own a 2006 Package #7 with version 5.1 for the Navigation. I ordered the standard lockpick ($99.00) from Coastal and it should be delivered today. I was also planning to pick up the 6.1 disc that I special ordered from one of the local dealers a few days ago. Is it my understanding from these threads that the new lockpick from Coastal will not work if I load the 6.1 disc??? Please advise and thanks in advance.
