I just drove my wife's Prius 2600 miles across the country and it's pretty apparent it needs new shocks. My wife will be driving it back so I'd like to at least get the front shocks sorted quickly while here at her parents house before her return home in 2 weeks. I'm considering the KYB KYB Excel-G Gas Strut - plus SR4223 and SR4224 Front Right - https://amzn.to/2xBGKjB Front Left - https://amzn.to/2G2GoXV Is there anything else easy and recommended to replace while I'm in there? Or any other tips and tricks I should know? Thanks
Replace the top strut mount and the bellows cover on each strut as well. Here are my observations about this task: Hints Regarding Replacement of 2G Front Struts | PriusChat There is no doubt that the rear shocks need to be replaced as well. When you get around to doing that, see my thread here: Replaced Rear Shocks | PriusChat
I'm pretty sure those complete units contain those so I think I'm good then. The rears definitely need doing to but in the interest of time and impact I'll only have time for the fronts.
Same struts are 123.00 each on Rock Auto Might be more than Amazon with shipping though. Save your old ones. I have heard stories of some of the strut parts not being as good as original Toyota. The struts themselves are OEM but the other parts???
I found a how-to for suspension on here a while back but can't find it now I need it. Does anyone have it bookmarked by any chance?
The lower control arms sag I'm sure. Causing tire wear on the outsides of the tires. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
What type of symptoms where you experiencing? My 2009 Prius Touring w/ 142,000 seems to still be going strong. The suspension is definitely a little stiff but all in all it is handling like it did when I bought it. The one thing I have been experiencing is a rubbing rusty hinge sound when turning the steering wheel when doing a “K” turn. I did some research and it says that some models have a known steering column defect having to do with “insufficient hardness” of splinders. It seems to be exacerbated by the cold weather. I ran a VIN number search and no recalls have been issued for my vehicle. I think it was a Toyota page if I am not mistaken but this was a while ago. Does anyone suggest any further way to investigate this issue?
Just another part that's worn and needing replacement. Alignment can't be done properly and tires wear fast. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
