Hey everyone. I have a 2023 Prius LE on order, and it was expected to make it to my dealer here in TX by the end of this week. As of 9/5, it’s on a VPC (Vehicle Processing Center) hold, and they have not told my dealer why the car is on hold at the processing center. Anyone in TX or the other Gulf states experienced a VPC hold with their allocations? What was it on hold for? My salesman did say that it shouldn’t be on hold for very long. thanks.
Some have had a quality control hold. Best explanation they got was that there was a recall for a part. Maybe this a similar issue, and is being fixed, or it is simply a problem with paper work.
Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know of any part recalls for the 23 Prius? How long usually can these sorts of holds last?
i only recall a bad charging part for the prime. but these hold ups have been ongoing since they first started shipping, and there has only been speculation as to the reasons. i think 30 days has been mentioned.
Now I’m worried. I’ve had no updates from the dealer for my incoming prime this week. I was told just over a week ago that it should be at the dealership by 9/10 give or take a few days… Plus, I’m still wondering if the charger port got replaced or was built with the new updated one prior to mine being shipped (7/20 build date), or if I will have to deal with that issue later.
Just wanted to update this. Called my dealer this morning, because my Prius appeared back on the website (previously it was removed, and I thought that it was because it was scanned into the VPC, now I guess that’s not the case). Called the dealer, status now shows ‘in transit’, and dealer said it should be here by Monday at the latest! He also said in the notes, there was an open campaign for the Prius for “communications software”, so I guess that means it got the wrong software version at the factory and had to be updated at the port before it was put on a truck and delivered to a dealer. Thanks for all the info everyone. Excited to get my Prius!
I contacted my salesman this morning to see if there was any updates on my incoming prime XSE. It hit the port on August 28 and I was told that give or take a few days it should arrive by September 10. No updates I was told. Not there yet. I did ask which port it would be trucked in from as I was very curious, I was told New Jersey. Funny thing is they have a loaded up black prime XSE in stock for the last couple weeks just sitting on the lot. Guess no one wants a black one. I just cannot do another black car, such a pain to keep clean. I really am looking forward to the super sonic red and will wait. On an even funnier note, one of my local dealers reached out to me via voicemail and said they also have a prime XSE in guardian gray sitting on the lot that “they wanna get rid of”. The same dealer that had a multi thousand dollar markup when I was dead serious about buying one last month. Weird.
When I was looking from EOM June to August 8 when I purchased, every dealer indicated inventory was very tight and the wait could take months. Almost everyone had dealer markups. I felt I was lucky to find one exactly like I wanted when I did. Since then, every dealer including one from 150 miles away has contacted me about the Primes they had available. You can tell auto sales are down as every lot I drive by is overflowing with new vehicles. That combined with auto loan denial rates at all time highs is why some are not moving as fast as they were earlier this year. Certain colors seem to be more out of favor now like black and white. Most popular around here seem to be Cutting Edge, Guardian Grey, and Supersonic Red based on inventory "available". Rarely see the Reservoir Blue come up.
