2021 Prius Apple CarPlay- all calls work except wife with same Apple id

I have used Apple CarPlay in my 2021 Prius to call my family and the calls always go through fine. However, when I call my wife she answers but I can’t hear her and she can’t hear me. The timer counts as if the call was answered. I tried having her call me and it is the same issue.

I thought it could be that we both have the same Apple id. Maybe because both our phones are paired to the Prius but I drove over a mile away to make sure she wasn’t connected to the Prius via Bluetooth and that didn’t fix it.

we can use Siri to send and receive texts and the interface reads the texts she sends.

I don’t know what to do to fix it. I already fixed the issue that wouldn’t let me adjust the volume by deleting my Waze app which I thought was a weird fix. I wonder what I need to do now.

I don’t know how to make the transition into separate Apple IDs. I started sharing mine with my wife back in 2009 and I don’t know if it is even possible to separate them now. It causes a lot of headaches but I purchased a lot of music, tv shows and movies that I wanted her to have access to and back then sharing my Apple ID was the only way I knew how to do it.
