Well, at least according to this article that states that Toyota will start production of the RAV4 PHV in the spring of 2020.

it makes sense that they would do a rav4 phev after seeing how much demand there is for the prime. It looks like the lexus ct bev is for china and japan and not the US.

That 2020 RAV4 PHEV is really going to cut into the sales of the 2020 Prime V wagon model. ;) :D

It was a joke. :D There is/was no Prime wagon. The RAV4 sales forced the Prius V into a disappearing act. The impending demise of the V had been speculated about for years.

There's no reason not to expect the progress of hybrid upgrades to continue.

RAV4 is a sensible choice in the product-line to get a larger battery and plug.

Well, I thought we will wait for 2019 Rav4. Now I have to wait for 2020. :(

The Escape PHEV might be available in 2019.

Leadership isn't being first, it's the ability to deliver it right.

In this case, that means high-volume at an affordably competitive price.

Wasn't calling them a leader. Just pointing out that @Salamander_King has another option to consider.

I went to look for Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. The dealer near me didn't have any, and told me they have no plan to get any because they would have to put charge station facility in order to get into the dealer program. I wonder if Ford dealer already have chargers on site???

Some might for the rare Focus EV. Ford is also planning for other plug ins. So dealers might be more inclined to get the charger if they it.

The Outlander has poor gas economy; possibly the same as the ICE model. Mitsubishi didn't put an Atkinson engine in it.

I did not test drive ICE Outlander, but I did look at them. I have no need for the tiny 3rd row seats they put in that car. Don't know the actual spec, but Rav4 cargo looked much bigger.

Outlander PHEV is a 5-seater since the battery goes in the well where the 3rd row folds into.

Even if you were considering one, I'd wait for the 2019 for the upgrades to the engine (2.4 litre Atkinson cycle vs. the Otto cycle of the current model) plus electric motor and battery upgrades (10 and 15% increases).

This will at least improve the hybrid MPG and of course a few extra AER miles is always welcome.

So many choices. So long of wait. I need a second car with a lot of cargo this year. I am looking at cheap used truck/van option until we find a permanent choice.

This thinking is eventually going to sort out the dealers that are going to survive going forward and those that will be ignored and wither away. I don't know what is involved in what they call a charge station, but if it is an L2 unit, or even several, those are the cost of 1/10th that of some of their dealer-owned diagnostic equipment. Customers can afford L2's, have them at their own residences, but the multi-million dollar dealerships decide that it isn't worth it to attract a consumer segment that is continuing to grow. Change or die. Too bad, but I have absolutely no sympathy for dealers that can't commit to the new paradigm.

While I agree with you in principal if that is just L2 charge station, they were talking about L3 CHAdaMO Fast charger for the Outlander PHEV. I don't know the cost involved for putting those charging station, but it is surely much higher than L2. I live in very rural area of New England, and if they goes with Outlander PHEV program, I would guess they will sell only a few in a year at best? Now they will sell none for sure. Here is the spec of Outlander PHEV: 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Charging Time & Specs | Mitsubishi Motors

Now why would I as a dealer want to invest to sell a niche market car where I don't have chance of reoccurring service revenue which is where I make my money? Especially if it a dealership for a brand which is marginal at best in terms of number of sales. And if the car is less efficient in the colder climate where I'm located.
