    Hello all,

I just picked up my first Prius: a 2019 awd-e. Three friends have had Priii since first gen, but with my mountain-pass commute I wanted awd, and I love the face-lift of 2019.

    Only 350kms -- 217 miles -- so far, and I love it. :)

I've started reading the manual, but I'm sure I'll have questions...

    Tootles, Dave.

I'm planning to get an AWD Prius this summer. The timing worked out well for me, now that my 2006 Prius has 265,000 miles on it.

Here's a question that no one has been able to answer, not even the Toyota people at the car show:

Does AWD work in reverse? It should be easy to test this, because AWD is supposed to be always on at speeds from 0-6 mph. So, if you start the car and put it in Reverse, you should be able to look at the indicator on the display to determine whether AWD is in effect.

Congrats on your new PRIUS, and welcome to PriusChat. You may not have any more snow, but let us know how it handles in increment weather conditions.

Prius AWD is on my future short list too. However, maybe by then they will have an AWD Prius Prime option! That would be the best of both worlds.

I got a white, base-model awd-e, as I wanted cloth seats. I'll post picks when I get the pictures uploaded to one of the repositories.

LewLasher, our snow is gone, but I'll try to test that in sand, or head up the mountains to find snow :)

Today I put on a few hundred miles, and I some questions.

On the trip to get my son, the dash said I averaged 3.2L/100kms (73.5 us mpg), and 3.8L/100kms (61.9mpg) on the way back.
Is the dash fuel economy numbers accurate? I did have everything set to Eco mode, and was driving the best I could for high mileage.

Temps must be moderate where you are to get summer-like numbers.

Seems reasonable if your temperatures are moderate (15-18°C daytime highs).

I am also thinking about an AWD Prius here in Europe.. May I ask how much you paid?

My drive yesterday started at 17C (62F) and ended at 12C (53F). A lot of elevation change, though.

Yeah, that's a pretty good temperature range... (especially in the sun). Not warm enough to need cooling, not cold enough to require the heater.

Elevation change can be a good or bad thing. Rolling hills can be advantageous to fuel economy.

I just bought an LE AWD-e and it's a bit messy comparing purchases because there are usually differences in add-ons (floor mats etc.) and in how they handle "dealer fee" or "doc fee" etc. But I think mine was pretty close to the Edmunds "True Market Value" (maybe a little below) if you want to google that.

That would have been my ideal too. But since both Prime and AWD-e lose cargo area for different reasons, I suspect it wouldn't be viable for anybody wanting a decent cargo space, and it would be expensive too.

LewLasher, this morning I toggled to the screen showing which wheels are getting power, put trans in reverse, and the graphic showed that going backwards, the rear wheels are being powered up to the regular 6mph. (edited due to terrible sentence structure)

Globoprius, In British Columbia Canada, the base-model awd-e is $28,900cdn. My dealer lowered it by 1,000.

Thanks for doing that experiment! It's not a surprise, because it is very useful, and it seemed like it would be very easy to implement. Yet, until now, no one knew for sure. So it is very good to confirm that.

    That’s amazing mileage!

Hmm. I noticed we don’t get the silver trim for the front corner - it’s black. Is it because you have the base AWD? Or are all of our AWD models like that?
