2017 Prius C 2 - Adding Backup Camera to OEM Head Unit - Which Harness?

I don't know this product, but Scosche is well known for making little problem-solver doo-dads like this so it seems reasonable at first blush.

From direct experience I can tell you that "the usual problem" is that the factory head unit supplies 6 volts of power to the factory camera. Meanwhile, all aftermarket cameras require a 12 volt supply.

I had to solve this problem in the opposite direction when I added a Sony stereo with 12v output to our 2018 c Two, which included a 6v Toyota camera from the factory.

In theory, all that is required is a relay with a coil that fires on 6 volts so that it can switch 12 volt power on and off to the camera circuit. The Scosche kit appears to have a plug-n-play interposer harness with a couple of wires going into a little black box, which is the ideal enclosure for a relay. In other words it looks about right for what it needs to do, and would absolutely save labor time vs. building similar from scratch.

They'll need to take the car a bit apart in order to thread the camera wiring up out of the hatch through the flexi-duct at the top hinge. Then they can thread it through the headliner and finally down the A-pillar to the dashboard. This is a common installation method for rear vision cameras in lots of cars and there isn't anything special about doing this in a c. If the shop is good, they are good. If they aren't, they aren't.

I have a 2013 Prius C and installed a 2014 Prius C head unit with navigation 100024 ID , I was able to install a reverse camera from AliExpress connected to the 6.8 volts ( provided by the head unit) with no issues what so ever with no relays or other headaches, all I did was running the RCA video cable from the head unit to the rear , the cable has a red wire incorporated in it for power, the red cable was connected to the + voltage from head unit the - was provided by the video ground signal, works like a dream.
The radio camera connector I got from the junkyard but you can find it on internet.
