Hi everyone I have regular 2017 prius and wanted to buy 2017 Prime went to check it at the dealer and drove it. It had like 20% looking at the dash and it felt like the engine was kicking in much sooner than on my regular prius may be because of the weight?
I tried to run Dr. Prius lifetime test but when it tells you to charge the battery using engine I couldnt get it to charge above 22%. And the amp charging drops from 10 to 1 amp. So I couldnt run the test even. Is the rest of the HV Battery should be charged using plug in?
Will it charge all the way up if i'm descending from a long hill?

So I watched some videos and I saw prime have blue and green battery levels. Seems like the prime I drove at the dealer couldnt utilize the "green" part of the battery

the engine should charge it to 80% in charge mode. can't you plug it in at the dealer, or ask them to before you get there?

No, the Prime is designed with two battery "zones" HV and EV. Once the EV portion is depleted, the Prime turns into a normal Prius Hybrid and only utilizes the smaller HV zone. While there is a Charge Mode that uses the ICE to put electrons back into the EV zone, there are very few situations where you would want to use it because of the MPG hit. The typical way to fill the EV zone is to plug in.

You don't have a tall enough hill to recharge the pack @Tim_HI. If your serious about this, have the dealership plug it in. About 4.5-5.5 hours on 110VAC or 2.5 hours on a L2 charger.

    Good Luck....

PS If you hold-down the EV/HV button; that'll put the car into "force charge mode". It'll take a while and will only charge the pack to 80%. Before you buy the car, make sure the car comes with the charging cable and spare tire change tools.

Last time I ran the drprius battery test in the Prime the test was not exactly what I'd call functional for the Prime. I was able to finish the test by running EV mode all the way to --- than switch to charge mode when the app wants the driver to charge the battery. When I run the test it was still winter and the charge mode charging section of the test only took a couple of minutes, nothing like running the same test in a regular Prius which the test was built to test.
My results from running the test were not very good - high 50's % - but it also took me a few tries to get the test to complete, so I was happy to have been able to at least get that far.
@sylvaing posted much better results when he ran the test, that also was good to hear that the test can actually be run and completed in the Prime even though following the instructions in the app for that test don't work in the Prime.

And when I questioned Dr Prius about the support for a Gen4 Prius, I got the following, so I didn't really believe in its result.

I don’t think Dr. Prius App is fully calibrated for the 2017 Prime yet, we only have a chance to work on the Gen1 plug-in Prius, we need to find a test car and calibrate it, FYI.

So I used Dr Prius to record a CSV of a drive I did that included hard acceleration and braking. I drained about 40% of the battery in that test. I plotted each cell voltage and the max difference between all the cells for all data samples. My result showed the battery was in good health, which is also evident by my battery still having 42 km of range.

@Tim_HI, if you want, record a long drive with hard acceleration and braking with Dr Prius (that red dot on the right of the screen) and attach it here. I'll plug it in my spreadsheet and send you the result.

I also was able to run the test. 66000 miles 2017 prime. Blue part of the battery on the screen was full and the traction battery was showing 2% i think, then the app started the test and ran it for like 8 minutes until the engine kicked in showed me 68% score which is kinda bummer considering that I got 82% on regular Prius 2017 with 122000 miles

Yeah I hear ya about the low score, but the app is not a good indicator as it's not setup for the Prime yet and might not ever be. We'll just have to wait and see if Jack can make it work on both the regular Prius and Prime.

Just curious how long the charge part (after the engine kicked on) of the test ran for the Prius and the Prime.
I thought I'd be waiting a good half hour while in charge mode but it only took 3 or 4 minutes to finish.
