2016 with 10k for $15,000: If this is legit... should I look into it?

    It's near $20k when you add in the 18 payments. Not a great deal. But maybe OK.

    I'm trying to find a used 2016 for $15,000-16. Can't go any higher. It's either that or a 2013 with more miles.

    You might try Carvana. I saw 2016 Prius Twos on there for as low as $17,600, maybe if you monitor the site something will show up cheaper

    But maybe the 18 payment period will put you in the game on this one. Offer them less: They make the next 6 payments, you make the final 12 and then refinance the payoff. Just be sure to look at the car closely to make sure if you have to turn it in that there are no defects.

    Good point. They haven't replied so I'm assuming it's gone.

    I'm really struggling to determine if it's really wise / worth the money for me to purchase a 2016 instead of a 2013. Even after a battery replacement and regular EGR cleaning, the 2013 would, on paper, cost me less. Of course, we're talking about cars –– nothing is guaranteed....so it's a lottery but still a big decision. I would be perfectly content with a 2013; the only reason I would consider something newer is if everyone told me to steer clear of the 2013 at all cost... but so far I don't see any major issues if you take care of the EGR to avoid the head gasket blowing.

    Maybe I can test drive both at a dealer.

    You figured it out.
    But when I first read the deal, I wasn't impressed.
    A year and 1/2 of lease payments, then option to buy...

    You are basically doing exactly what the ad is saying...taking over lease payments.
    I also don't know if it would be as easy as simply contacting Toyota Financing and signing some paperwork. The lease and lease payments and deal was made with the parameters and credit of the original owners.
    Your credit rating may be entirely different.

    In any case, regardless of the newness of the vehicle, it's now already nearly 2 model years old. And not a lot of bonus for really being offered for assuming the lease on it.

    I think a better deal, or at least a similar deal could be made from scratch.

    I have a 2016, which I bought new. Honestly, I think it's a ripoff if you have to pay the guy $15K and pick up the rest of the payments. I would think you could get a 2017 new or even a 2017 dealer courtesy car for the same or maybe less.

    Check kbb.com, truecar.com, autotrader.com, CarMax.com and see what they're going for in your area.

    I started searching back in November, for a 2016. It took five weeks, but the best deal I could get on a 2016 Three Touring with LDA and Adaptive Cruise, 17" Rims, 22,000 miles, was $21,000 OTD. If you go for a Two, you could easily find one for 18-19000 OTD. That's probably the best you will do. A 2013 can be had for 10-11000.
