2016 vs a 2017 Prius

Mainly the Toyota Safety Sense - P is now standard on 2017 where it was optional in 2016. Tideland Prius may tell you in detail what the difference are.

 

Thanks, great info! This standard upgrade in 2017 is great news! Automatic braking to prevent a collision is the most important active safety feature and it's a must-have in any new car. I'm glad it's now standard along with other active safety features.

This also makes the ATP package unnecessary now unless you want a sunroof.

 

The major auto manufactures ALL agreed to make AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) Standard for nearly all passenger cars by 2022, which NHTSA was going to be requiring of them irregardless. The voluntary agreement to do, just speeds up the process; knocking off 3 years according to article below. So by 2019, nearly al passenger cars will have AEB as standard equipment.

Safety sells. The auto manufactures know this. Would you want to be the manufacturer fighting this future regulation? Even a the lowly Chevy Impala came standard with AEB in 2014.

Car models that have AEB standard have a big selling point over competitors that have it as an option/upgrade.

 

Automatic braking and adaptive cruise control sold a 2014 car instead of a 2016 Prius.

I specifically wanted the Touring to get the TSS-P ... Don't want HUD or a sunroof (all the 4s seem to come with them around me) with the 0% vs the 1.9 and the greater discount .. I took a 2016. I keep my cars for at least 5-6 years. IMO -- the price difference is worth getting the 4T vs the 3T. Do you want a sunroof ... the remaining 16's are heavily discounted. The recall for the parking brake has halted sales.

 

Thanks to the chart above, I know the difference in trim levels from the 2016 to the 2017. I'm curious if there are other subtle differences. Is there a software update, new radio knobs? If you can offer any examples, i'd love to hear. Thanks!

 

I referenced this thread just earlier today and made a nice deal on a 2016 3T. Haven't signed yet, but knowing that there really isn't a difference at that trim level was a big part of it.

 

Just curious but are all the windows the same from a 2016 Prius two and a 2017 Prius two??? or has the shape change a bit between the 2 years??? I ask because I want to tint my friends 2017 yet the vendor claims they don't make 2017 but makes tint (already cut) for 2016. I could have sworn 2016 and 2017 is the same other than the Prime.

 

2017 is only used as a name in USA - the rest of the world didn't make a point of calling it such - still Gen 4 PRIUS. We just goes by manufacture month/year, and from what I gather, there were only changes in equipment between years.

 

The cup holder area is now black when you get the black interior and white with the white interior.

 

Whaaaaat?!? They must have Frankensteined my '17 Four I have black interior with "white bone china" center. I much prefer the black center

 

Yup, we purchased the very expensive black insert for the cupholders and it does look much better. When I asked before purchase about the cost of that change, our salesman mumbled something about $65. I should have followed up. It's final cost with labor was around $275. So get the change thrown into your package before purchase. The black insert does not cover the bottom white part holding the cups, but does tone down the rest of the cupholder area. Also ask for the rubber OEM floor mats, which our dealer gave us a week after purchase. They look cool with the leaf insignia and work much better than the carpet ones that SE Toyota provides in a package. You may also want the rear bumper protector thrown in at purchase as it does save that area from much of the paint damage when airport and hotel bellmen sling your roller bags into the trunk. (I doubt that the white cupholder area will be standard much longer as few like it. I worry what will happen when it gets badly stained by spilled coffee or tea. Anyone experienced that yet?)

 

The inclusion of TSS-P and AEB systems was key to our purchase of a 2017 Four. These are vital safety systems that should have been required in all vehicles ten years ago, just like the rear backup cameras, which have been delayed forever and save the lives of hundreds of children every year just in the US. Who knows how many other children have been allowed to grow up where these cameras are in place. The AEB is handy because it happens much faster than a human can respond to a car that is suddenly right in front of you. It kicks off your cruise control before you can hit the brakes and sends a nice jolt through your body telling you to SLOW DOWN! Bravo! (Especially for those idiots texting and not watching the road.) It is a shame that lifesaving systems like these take so long to reach all vehicles.

 

Different culture, I know. I only have tea or coffee at home or in a restaurant but never in the car. The solution would be to take extra special care if you need to take those drinks with you.

 

Could you please tell Hubby that as he doesn't catch the "extra special care" part! (Many Americans practically live in their cars, but we won't get into that as it can get disgusting and dangerous.)

 

Oh - are they for tea cups? - I find mine useful for proximity swipes, USB sticks, spare pair of glasses, pen etc. Oh, and a dusting cloth for the horrible gloss black.

I reckon - pity it wasn't ALL WHITE - dust doesn't get attracted to it like the black.
