I'm looking at a 2016 Prius with 200K miles for $10K. According to the Carfax report, it's had 1 owner and the oil was changed every 10,000 miles at a Toyota dealership. 200K miles is a lot, but the gen 4 Prius doesn't have the EGR/head gasket problems of the gen 3. Is this worth buying?

It has 200,000 miles, only you can make that decision.
If it’s the best one you can find, your decision is made.
But you have to expect to deal with 200,000+ miles problems

200K mi put on that fast are most likely easy miles, unless it was used as a taxi. It doesn't sound like it was. Engine and transmission will most likely be just fine. Ask the maintenance questions on transmission fluid change and coolant. Still original water pump? Were plugs ever changed. The wear parts are gonna be the struts, possibly brake pads, rotors, etc. Other than that, there isn't much else that goes wrong if it hasn't already.

The Gen4s are great cars so it should be a good buy. Keep an eye on your coolant level as the heat recovery exchanger does tend to develop leaks. The heat exchanger can be bypassed (find the discussions here on PC) if it does leak, so don't be too worried about this known defect in the Gen 4 Prius.

I'd be more concerned with the health of the battery pack at that mileage.

I personally wouldn't purchase a vehicle with that many miles on it.

early miles are easy miles, you may be on to something decent there.

Are you looking at the car or data?

Gotta feel the seat, make sure nobody died/was born in the back etc.
