Featured 2016 Electric Drive Sales Summary/CA/USA

Hey I know what you are all asking:
Isn't it time for the California New Car Dealers Assoc. to publish 4th Quarter and YTD 2016 car sales results?

Here's my Tally for 2016:

Hybrids 2016
Total Sold: 384,417
California: 98,763
% in CA: 25.7%

PHEV 2016
Total Sold: 72,935
California: 33,226
% in CA: 45.6%

BEV 2016
Total Sold: 84,246
California: 40,347
% in CA: 47.9%

Note: CA is about 11% of US population, so anything over 11% in CA is a higher concentration there

So these are interesting numbers, but showing some greater penetration of Hybrid and PHEV sales outside of CA. At one point, CA was up to 30% of hybrids, I thought maybe headed for 35% in CA, and 65% of PHEV were in CA at one point. BEV has almost always been approaching 50% sales in CA.

Here are some of the trends we might be seeing in 2016:

• CA Green HOV stickers for PHEV were unavailable until October when more were issued
• Many more states have added Plug-In incentives, perhaps spreading out sales
• Many orders for Tesla Model 3 may have impact as some buyers are waiting
• No PiP or Prime sales until Nov. 2016
• Lower gaso costs may be reducing Hybrid demands

Why the focus on CA? CA is a major auto market, but also the only state that summarizes car sales like this. For the other states, we are clueless what cars are being sold (you have to pay to get that data).
