wow! that's awful!! i didn't think it was possible to make the prius any uglier, but toyota seems to have a special design talent. might come in handy if you need to move some rhino's out on the plain...

 

I do like the black bottom edge of the new front. The old color matching piece picks up lots of nicks from curbs and bugs.

I'll keep my 2012.

There's an easy fix for you; a can of black spray paint.

We're sure to see threads on whether the 2012-2014 bumper covers will fit the 2015.

Better yet is a rattle can size of spray on bedliner. MUCH more durable for that application.

The v looks soooooo angry but not in a good way (i.e., mean & nasty).

 

It looks like someone's given it a smack in the mouth and stuck a snow plough on the back. Not keen on the piano black tyres either.
That squared off front edge can't be good for pedestrian safety.

 

I bought my 2014 v not for it's looks but for it's economy and solid engineering and reliability. I wouldn't buy a 2015 v because of it's ghastly appearance which i'm sure will also affect it's resale value. Also if my friends, neighbors and relatives see me driving one of these new monstrosities I'd be the butt of a lot of jokes.

 

agreed. it's one thing to have a car that isn't the best looking, it's another to purchase the ugliest car in production. just makes it harder for the function to overcome the form. and why? why must they get uglier, instead of better looking? did all the powers that be look at the prototype and go; yep, that's it.

 

They could have found a better way of hiding the enhancements mad to meet the IIHS small overlap crash, without making an UGLY bumper.

This reminds me of the afterthought bumpers on the late 1970's.

 

It's sticker is sure to cause a snicker. I'll have to check one out, better materials inside are not readily apparent. The entire Family style of the front grill doesn't work for most of the Toyotas, seems overkill and not understated at all. Toyota doesn't appear to notice the little things that make life more pleasing. Having a cargo light in the cargo hold for one. Did they change that? Having a $3,335 tech upgrade in a car that gets 42 mpg combined? So far, I'm aghast at the decline in resale for my 2013, and I only have 16,000 miles on it.

I bought it for the cargo hold and the economy, plus reliability. I've seen a lot of the new Toyotas, and in terms of the whole package, they're quickly looking like a commodity item. I like them, but many don;t.

 

Out of curiosity (and maybe I should start a new thread...?), what are folks' thoughts on what resale on the 2015 v will be like? We are replacing our 2001 Prius within the next month or so, and need a wagon. Our final two contenders are the Subaru Impreza and the 2015 Prius v (and yes, we know they aren't really apples to apples, but the Prius hatchback cargo area is too shallow for our needs and the Outback too big/costly). Just test drove the 2015 v yesterday, and definitely not in love, but it does seem like it might be the more sensible choice (and I agree with whoever posted earlier that the front bumper is not quite as hideous in real life as it is in photos, although I'm still not a fan). We are thinking we'd like to keep this car only until there's a compelling family-friendly electric with long range or plug-in hybrid with decent cargo space (we have two young kids plus a large dog, and nothing currently on the market works--we've tried them all!) In five years, which would you guess will hold its value more?

 

Low gas prices reduce Prius resale and even new see good discounts. High gas prices drive Prius resale up and up.

I still have and drive my 1998 Mazda MPV. Like the "v," it will serve me for years. I don't think I will see $2 gallon gas in 2025.

 

agree with parker and mike. with the prius, it's the opposite of the stock market. odds are, you can get a great deal now, and when you go to sell, you might even make money.

 

If you can time the oil markets, put the $35k into presently discounted leveraged oil ETFs and buy your Prius when the market tops.

 

When I first saw pictures of the 2015 v I too thought it looked horrendous. Today I took our 2013 v in for it's 20K service and saw the new 2015 in person. It looks much better in person. I'm still not wild about it, but it's not as overwhelmingly bad as I first thought!

 

well, i'm glad to hear a few people say they look better in person. now toyota has to figure out how to get people into the dealerships. maybe only show the rear of the car in ads?

 

Um, yes it can be. The new 2015 Prius v has a new front pedestrian storage compartment that holds up to three pedestrians, two if you want 'em to have wiggle room, that you randomly hit with the new Pacman bumper. Wagawagawagawaga bewwwwwup!

 

I just bought a 2015 Prius v (as is posted all over,and even in this threads thread title, it is a lowercase v for the Prius v wagon, not an uppercase. Only the 2010 Prius used uppercase Roman numerals for model designation) I didnt really pay that much attention to prior years front bumper. I clearly saw they were different. But not enough to avoid a 2015. Maybe over time when you start seeing more of them on the road, it will be less of an eye sore for non likers. I felt similar to the last mustang 2010 to 2014 when it first came out. I thought it looked terrible. But later changed my mind. For me, I like the bumper.
