Hello! I have a 2015 Prius C, 110K miles, with the notorious P0A80 code. The car has always run perfectly, and once the mobile mechanic who diagnosed it reset the code, it's been basically fine since.

Once I got the code, I checked out the battery fan which was covered in a pretty solid layer of dust. I cleaned it, as well as the fan blades themselves, but no idea if that will help or if the battery is permanently damaged. (any advice or anecdotal experience to that end is also appreciated)

My main question is, does the CA emissions warranty cover my Prius C battery replacement? I've spoken to two different reps at Toyota who have given me two different answers, and I'm feeling a little disheartened and not eager to go to the dealership. I've read conflicting info that the Prius C is and isn't covered. Is there any chance of Toyota making an exception? Any and all help is appreciated!

My original understanding is 10-yr/150k-mile for Prius, and 8-yr/100k-mile for Prius C. But later I remember reading a post on Prius Chat someone got his Prius-C traction battery replaced under the 10-yr/150k-mile warranty in California.

According to the Toyota Warranty, it's 8 years/100K Miles.

But, I thought that the CARB requirements for Hybrid batteries were 10years/150K miles. But, that may be a latter requirement.
Imho, call up CARB ,and ask them! Plus, get their name, and record the time and Day.

If the CARB requirement is 10years/150K miles for your car, then ....

Then, call up Toyota, and tell you talked to XXX YYYY, on AAA BBB CCC.
Also, get that person's name, and record the data and time.
And, from talking to Mr/Ms YYYY, you're understanding is that the CARB required warranty on your vehicle is DDDD.
Is that correct? Or, do you need something in writing from CARB, or to have a CARB official contact them directly?

Note, always be polite and professional. The person you are talking to does not make the rules, nor do they decide what they can and can not tell you.

    Good Luck!

Toyota offers BEV battery warranty coverage for 8 years, or 100K miles, whichever comes first.

they must have really cheaped out if they're only offering an 8/100 warranty

The c model was always sold with a shorter warranty on the hybrid battery.

I've read speculation that the c is a little harder on its battery because it is 86% as heavy as a 2nd generation Prius, yet the battery is 40% smaller, and that adds up to me.

I am thinking the same way too. But the warranty for Yaris hybrid with identical powertrain and battery is 10 years/unlimited miles in europe.
Is it either they are not identical or the weather is milder in EU

My guess is that they're all hitting 10 years before they hit any significant mileage, what with Euro cities so close together.

For some reason I thought the all Prius hybrid battery warranties (outside of California) were 10yr/100k until a few years ago.

I couldn't say. Toyota has the warranty booklets in PDF form on their owner info site, if you want to get to the bottom of it.

The emissions on Prius C is not as low as Prius. So, Prius C is not eligible for 10y/150k miles CA warranty

Not exactly. Many people live in Germany, France, and Spain commute pretty far. I and most of my colleagues commutes with car 10miles daily. With vacation and hiking trips, we spent 15-20k miles per year. Yet the hybrid battery rarely failed and we all have 10y in europe mainland and 15 y in UK/ireland without mileage limitation. I believe the mild climate is the main reason. Uk/Ireland rainy/cloudy days is 90% in a year. The winter is never really cold either.
