"Toyota unveiled its new-generation Prius, built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) modular platform, with styling aping the fuel-cell Mirai. An 18 percent reduction in CO2 emissions is promised thanks to a new-generation hybrid powertrain with higher efficiency, lower weight, and at the same time better performance. The petrol engine is said to achieve a remarkable 40 percent thermal efficiency, and there’s a new, more compact nickel-metal-hydride battery mounted lower to improve the car’s centre of gravity. Durability and charging performance are said to have been “significantly” improved. No further details have been released yet: in due course it’ll be interesting to find out why Toyota stuck with NiMH cells rather than adopting the Li-ion chemistry used by Tesla and others." -http://arstechnica.com/cars/2015/09/2015-frankfurt-motor-show-the-worlds-motor-giants-reveal-the-cars-of-tomorrow/
