2014 Prius not starting

    Hello everyone!

    I am having issues starting my 2014 Pruis C. The past few weeks, on rare occasions, it wouldn't start randomly but I was always able to get it started. However, this morning when I went to start it after a day of no use, it wouldn't start.

    I still have power to the vehicle but it's less than it was before. When I turn the lights on now, it clicks and then shuts off full power to the car. No specific lights come on the dash....it just won't turn over/on. I can turn the power onto the vehicle enough to see that the battery is charged. So I don't think it's the hybrid battery. Or at least I hope it's not. I'm awaiting a tow right now. Is it safe to say it's most likely the alternator or the 12V battery causing the issues?

    I don't really know much about my car unfortunately so any help would be greatly appreciated. I decided to take it to Pep Boys to get the batteries tested before I take it into the dealership since all of the warranties, manufacturer included, doesn't cover battery issues and a I don't want to spend $150 on diagnostics yet.

    2015 Prius C

    During the last three days every morning, each time I attempt to start my 2015 Prius C (81100 miles) it always failed to start, check engine light comes on and nothing else happens. The car unlocks electronically, the lights come on and The next few times I turn the key more lights on the dashboard start lighting up, but the car never fully starts up. Then eventually, after several tries (with various attempts to reset like getting out of the car and locking and unlocking it, messing with, shifting, Opening the hood, Checking the gas cup) the car starts, and drives fine, and even starts again 2-3 hours later with no issues. Then, after letting it sit overnight, the next time I try to start it the same thing happens again.


    Today, Upon starting the car dashboard came up with a lot of the warning lights still on, but after I open the garage door to let the direct Sun rays heat up the rear of the car (where the battery was located) and wait few hours later to start the car . Booya! the car started normally. Strong indication it’s a battery issue.


    Googled Prius C & find out about this Prius Chat. Search for Prius C battery issues and to find out any after market battery for prius C. and find out about Auto Zone. After calling them I was told that there is no After market Battery yet for Prius C model. Standard Prius is the only after market battery available.


    As a believer of at least two quotes before making a decision I called two dealers just to find out that the battery price only differ by $5.00. Labor is a big difference. Fortunately my local dealer
    has senior discount and end up saving >$50.00.
