    Hi Everyone,

Long-time lurker and first-time poster. Thanks for all the help you've provided in the past. We're sitting right around 172,000 miles on our 2014 Prius C and we're going to the dealer later this week for our 170,000ish mile service. The last thing I want to do is annoy anyone with a maintenance question, but: I've been chatting with the service manager we've been dealing with exclusively since we purchased the car and he sent the recommended services this time around.

As a preface - we've never missed a service and have taken good car of the car that's treated us so well, too. Our family is growing again with our fourth child and while we know we will need something larger for all of us - we are also hoping to keep our C around for as long as possible - especially for me to drive to work.

So, our advisor said the engine coolant will be $261 and the inverter coolant is $210 both done last in December of 2022 at 129,321. The Hybrid trans-axle service is $192 last done in October of 2021 at 105,997 miles. This is with the tire rotation and oil change. I've also seen around the forums, the maintenance schedule, and elsewhere that the engine coolant should be replaced at 100,000 miles and then every 50,000 miles thereafter - whereas the the inverter coolant gets replaced at 150,000 miles and then 50,000 miles thereafter.

My long-winded question is: we were planning and would very much like to wait on the oil change, rotation, and transaxle service this time around and waiting for the coolants during our next visit (most likely during the late-summer.) Especially since with the numbers he provided we technically aren't due for the engine and inverter coolant services until 179,321. Judging from the schedule it seems like they jumped the gun a bit early (20,000 miles early) on the inverter coolant service the first time around? To the best of your knowledge and ability does it at least make sense to wait until next visit for both coolants?

Thank you all so very much and have a great night!

i would do the coolants at the maintenance schedule recommendations. tranny fluid changes are anyones guess and not on toyotas schedule.
how long miles/years do you plan to keep it?

Thanks for the reply! So technically, the coolants are being recommended a bit early though, right? Like we can wait for the next service visit since we are currently at 172,000 miles and the coolants (even though our service advisor recommended them for this visit) aren't technically recommended until 179,000 miles?

We'd love to keep it for another 50,000 miles or more, if possible!

Yes, it is early. Do you have a copy of the maintenance schedule that came with the car?
It’s a mistake to ask a dealer service department about maintenance, their first priority is profit

It's early for the coolant, and transmission oil changes are extremely optional on these things in the first place.

Better to hold on to your cash so you're in a better position for eventual hybrid battery replacement. For a 2014, "eventually" is going to be sooner than later.

Yeah it's only been about 40K since last coolant changes, and it's definitely miles-not-months governing with your usage. I'd leave it till it's been 50k. FWIW, attached are US gen 3 Prius schedules (both Excel spreadsheet and PDF formats), converted to table format and extrapolated to 240k. Prius c is likely the same. You could go through the Toyota USA Priuss c Warranty and Maintenance and check against that, edit as needed.
